Welcome back to another look into Mile High sports! Nuts and Bolts Sports brings you another edition of the Mile High Review. As always, we take a look into the current state of sports in the Mile High City. First, we look in on the Nuggets and their cooling off. Next, we check up on the Avalanche and the best line in the NHL. Last, we talk about the Broncos, but only because we have to. So, let’s get it!
NBA: Nuggets
At 10-6, the Nuggets have fallen to 3rd in the Northwest division. Even worse, the Nuggets sit sixth in the Western Conference. However, all is not lost. The Nuggets still make the Mile High City proud with their defense. They rank fourth in the league with 104.6 points allowed per game. While that doesn’t sound amazing, that’s great for the NBA in 2018. Furthermore, the Nuggets are still only one game out of first place. Per usual, the West is loaded, but the Nuggets are still in the mix of things.
On a different note, the Nuggets hired Sue Bird to the front office position of basketball operations associate. It was not a move that many in the Mile High City expected, but I can say we are excited. Bird is one of the best to ever do it in the WNBA. In addition, she has three championships to her name. She is a winner. We look forward to what to will bring to the table.
NHL: Avalanche
Not to be outdone, the Avalanche have cooled off significantly as well. The other pride of the Mile High, the Avalanche are fifth in the Central Division. With 22 points, they are seven points behind the division-leading Predators. As with the Nuggets, it’s not the worst situation to be in, but it could be better.
What has hurt the Avalanche is the penalty kill and the goals against per game. Those have fallen to 12th and 15th in the NHL respectively. Being the pessimistic city the Mile High is, we expected this. We all knew that a low point would come. The difference now is how the Avalanche handles this low point. The season is young and there is still a lot of hockey to be played.
NFL: Broncos
I want to keep it brief for the Broncos this week. It’s been a while, but I’m happy to report a WIN for the Broncos. As sad as it sounds, no one here is really that excited. The Broncos win hurts the Chargers, but neither team is likely to catch the Chiefs. At this point, we’re just ready for this season to be over. If we could press fast forward, we would.
