What to Watch for in Liberty vs. Fever

The New York Liberty have been red hot, winning seven of their last eight games. They blew out the Las Vegas Aces 111-71 on Sunday.

Marine Johannes went off for 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting to lead New York.

The Liberty allowed the shorthanded Aces to stick around in the first half but put their foot on the gas pedal in the second half, outscoring Las Vegas 61-32.

New York will need to carry that momentum over into their next game against the Indiana Fever, who have won six of their last eight games.

The storylines are going to revolve around two of the WNBA’s elite guards — Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark.

Both certainly make it a point to bring their A games whenever they face off, sharing very similar traits both on and off the floor.

Both are adept at dialing it in from near half-court and also setting their teammates up for success.

How Can the Liberty Keep Things Rolling?

The Liberty survived mediocre shooting performances from Breanna Stewart and Ionescu on Sunday.

However, Stewart has proven time and time again that she knows how to put poor performances behind her and find ways to will her team to victory even if she has to carry most of the scoring load herself.

Indiana’s tough defensive unit, featuring Aliyah Boston and Sophie Cunningham, will likely look to box up the paint and prevent Stewart and Jonquel Jones from getting their typical clean looks down low.

It’ll be up to Liberty head coach Chris DeMarco to counter those schemes, meaning he could rely on Ionescu to set the tone early from deep.

The Liberty’s defense should also be expected to throw double teams and traps towards Clark and force the ball out of her hands.

However, the Liberty’s defense will also need to account for Kelsey Mitchell and Boston.
