WE ARE GEORGETOWN! What a week for not just Hoyas fans but anyone who loves Big East Basketball, this regular season has been so competitive and the growth of these Hoyas is the cherry on top. With two games left until the Big East Tournament and the Big Dance the Hoyas are tied for 4th place at the time of this article and finish the season on the road twice vs. DuPaul and tenth ranked Marquette. Would be nice to sweep the Blue Demons and get revenge on a Marquette team that won easily in DC earlier this season. The game against Creighton was so bad, (69-82) I couldn’t even get myself in front of my tablet to do my column. But these last two games show all the things we talked about all season long, and they are:

1. Stock in this program is going up and will continue to heading into the postseason
2. The freshmen backcourt of James Akinjo and Mac McClung is one of the best in the country
3. Overall the freshmen class has been a bolt of energy to the entire program
4. NCAA berth talk is NOT dead

This is the best coaching job by the Ewing staff so far in their short time on the Hill Top making timely adjustments and teaching non-stop. Allowing Mac McClung to be himself and give them a dynamic scorer and James Akinjo growing pains be damned, the young man has been awesome down the stretch and the floor slap last night had old school Big East fans like me wanting to strap up and play. Guard play wins or loses games for teams in March, and at the perfect time, the young guys are starting to get it. The rotation is set, and the players are excelling in the roles they were given the effort last night had coach Ewing smelling and fist pumping to a hype crowd afterward. He went on to say

Ewing: “Tonight was the proudest I’ve ever been of my team. Sometimes as a coach you want your team to take on your personality well tonight, they took on my personality. We fought for everything. I’ve very proud of them.”

Can’t say enough about Jessie Govan and his game last night, it’s what the term fight through it means. Starting senior night 0 for eight from the field he gave us one last home performance to talk about, getting his conference-leading 8th double-double 15 of his 21 points came in overtime. Sounds corny and overused but the game was a short version of his career, never giving up sticking with it. Had to feel good for him and this senior class to get the W the way they did.

Two more games and a conference tourney to show the powers that be what they are made of and why they should be in the big dance. I leave you with this, when was the last time you had this much optimism and excitement over any Georgetown team this late in the season? Follow our blog @NutsAndBoltsSP or myself @JoeCardoso301 until Wednesday folks HOYA SAXA!

Joe Cardoso

Joe Cardoso here! I’m the epitome of a sports junkie. An alum of the College of Southern Maryland, I received a diploma from the Maryland Institute of Broadcasting (MIB). During my tenure at MIB, I was a news/sports major and had the opportunity to intern at Fox 45 sports and Ravens Radio. I also worked as an overnight board operator for Sports Talk 980 ESPN Radio. I’ve been a total sports fanatic pretty much from the womb. My first love is soccer followed by basketball and then football. My favorite athletes are Kevin Garnett and Marino Rivera and my sports teams are the Yankees, Commanders, Michigan, Wizards, and Chelsea. My passion for sports is never ending. My sister once commented that I would probably follow pig racing if it was a sport!
