College Basketball Top 25: Post Week 4

By: Kristen Ashly

It appears Michigan State is a breeding ground for uber-athletic co-eds, when after Michigan State’s football team guaranteed itself a chance at the National Championship, its basketball team reached the sport’s regular-season pinnacle two days later.

Tom Izzo’s Spartans top my Week 4 poll, flying past Kentucky and Maryland, which each suffered a loss last week. Kansas takes its place at No. 2, while North Carolina, Iowa State and Kentucky round out the elite top five.

In biggest surprise drops, the Wildcats dropped to No. 5 after taking their first loss. Thomas Welsh scored 21 points, leading the Bruins on their mission to shock the nation with an 87-77 win, Thursday night. Kentucky’s normally solid and stacked defense allowed 50 second-half points, while Jamal Murray and Tyler Ulis combined to shoot 7-of-28 from the field.

Take a look at my top 25 below, and come back next week to see where your favorite school ranks:

1. Michigan State
2. Kansas
3. North Carolina
4. Iowa State
5. Kentucky
6. Maryland
7. Oklahoma
8. Duke
9. Villanova
10. Virginia
