Things have not been easy for the Toronto Tempo as of late, as the team finds itself on a losing streak. In their last game, the Dallas Wings beat them 94-88, and that extended their losing streak to 10. Before that, they lost to teams like the Minnesota Lynx, the Golden State Valkyries, and the Atlanta Dream.
Tempo Faces Eastern Conference Contender
This week, the Tempo have a chance to end that streak, but they are taking on tough opponents. For starters, they have a home game against the Indiana Fever. Indiana picked up an overtime win over the Atlanta Dream, and the starters came to play. Four of the Fever’s five starters scored 10 or more points, and Caitlin Clark had 26. Kelsey Mitchell and Makayla Timpson both had 20, and Aliyah Boston had 18.
Indiana has won its last four games, but Toronto can pull off an upset. It will take a team effort, but it can be done. Then, once the game against the Fever wraps up, the Tempo will prepare for a road game. They are taking on the Washington Mystics, and before losing to the Las Vegas Aces, they were the hottest team in the league.
Las Vegas beat Washington in back-to-back games, but the Mystics recovered with a win over the Los Angeles Sparks. Now, they want to get their 21st win of the season. Then, after Toronto’s back-to-back games, they get a day to rest before taking on the Portland Fire.
This losing streak has been a difficult period, but for an up-and-coming team, these things happen. Toronto has had plenty of positives, but this is one of a few obstacles. This season is a learning experience, and come next season, the team will have an opportunity to add more talent.
Things are just getting started for Toronto, and with players like Marina Mabrey, Aneesah Morrow, and more chipping in, they can climb the Eastern Conference standings for years to come.
