As far as drama goes, March Madness has no equal.

The Super Bowl can capture the nation’s attention for couple days, but for three weeks straight?

No way!

The single-elimination postseason basketball tournament furious pace, upsets, buzzer beaters, rambunctious celebrations and also inevitable heart wrenching losses is on a field by itself.

Now the best basketball tournament in the world reaches its’ final destination with the unmatched pageantry of the Final Four, in Minneapolis.

This is where Lady Luck will ultimately have her moment.

The only question is when, how or through whom:

Perhaps like in 1982 when,

North Carolina freshman Michael Jordan buried a corner jump shot with 17 seconds left to give the Tar Heels a 63 – 62 lead in the NCAA title game.

Georgetown Hoyas never got a chance to respond because on the next possession their guard Fred Brown threw the ball right into the waiting hands of North Carolina’s James Worthy, a turnover which iced the game and gave head coach Dean Smith his long-sought first championship.

Perhaps like in 1987 when,

Indiana’s Keith Smart nailed an open 16-foot jump shot from the baseline with four seconds left in the championship game, giving the Hoosiers a 74 – 73 win over Syracuse.

 

Perhaps like in 2003 when,

Syracuse forward Hakim Warrick blocked Kansas guard Michael Lee’s potential game tying three-point attempt wih 7 seconds left helping the Orange and freshman Carmelo Anthony win the title.

 

Perhaps like in 2006 when,

Maryland freshman Kristi Toliver drove a stake in the Duke Blue Devil’s hearts with a game tying three-pointer to send the championship game into overtime, then calmly sank two free throws with 35 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Terps the victory.

Lady Luck will have her moment, as certain as the day is long.
