February is off and running, and for most of us so are those New Year resolutions. We kick off the first fitness Q&A of 2025 and get to know a young lady who is building something special. Wearing so many hats from business owner, trainer, nurse, and sports model. We take you to Australia and introduce you to Sunita Chand!
Joe Cardoso: Growing up, did you play any sports at all?
Sunita: Growing up, I was always surrounded by sports, thanks to my dad, who was a professional boxer. I spent a lot of time at the gym with him, watching him train and fight. I was inspired by his discipline and work ethic. As I got older, I explored various sports, including bodybuilding. I eventually decided to compete in bodybuilding competitions, which further fueled my passion for fitness and taught me about the importance of dedication, diet, and mental resilience.
JC: Has fitness and healthy living always been an important part of your life?
ST: Yes, fitness and healthy living have always been integral parts of my life. Growing up, I learned the importance of taking care of my body through my dad’s boxing career. As I pursued bodybuilding, I saw firsthand how nutrition, training, and recovery are all connected. Healthy living became more than just about exercise—it became a lifestyle that influences every aspect of my life.
JC: When did you decide you wanted to help others and be a trainer?
ST: My journey into helping others started after I had gained a deep understanding of fitness and bodybuilding. Seeing the transformations in my life and others around me, I realized I wanted to guide others through their fitness journey. I’ve always been passionate about helping people, and becoming a trainer felt like the perfect way to share my knowledge and experience. After losing my dad to a brain injury and stroke, I felt an even stronger calling to help others prioritize their health, just as he had done throughout his boxing career.
JC: You are all about helping others from being a trainer to nursing. Where did this passion come from?
ST: My passion for helping others comes from my personal experiences and family influences. Growing up with my dad, who dedicated his life to his sport, I understood the value of taking care of one’s health. After his passing, I realized just how important it is to not only live a healthy life but to share that knowledge with others. As a nurse, I saw how healthcare could change lives, and as a trainer, I wanted to be proactive in helping people make positive changes before their health declines. Both fields allow me to care for people in different ways, but the goal is the same: to help them lead healthier, happier lives.
JC: What was the process like building your own brand?
ST: Building my brand, Evolve with Sunita, was a mix of my personal experiences and professional background. From bodybuilding competitions to my nursing career, I wanted my brand to represent both physical strength and holistic wellness. The process wasn’t always easy, but it was important to me that I stayed authentic and aligned with my values. The most rewarding part has been seeing how my brand has helped others transform not just their bodies, but their mindsets too.
JC: What advice would you give anyone looking to start their own business in the fitness space?
ST: My advice would be to stay true to your passion and be patient. The fitness space can be competitive, but authenticity is key. Don’t be afraid to share your unique story—whether it’s your journey through bodybuilding or overcoming personal challenges. Also, be prepared to continuously learn and grow. The fitness industry is ever-evolving, and success comes from building strong, genuine relationships with your clients and offering value that goes beyond physical results.
JC: What does a typical week look like for you?
ST: A typical week for me includes a combination of client training sessions, nursing shifts, and time spent developing content for my brand. I balance both my fitness career and nursing responsibilities, and I also make sure to stay active myself. Some days include my own training, especially weightlifting, and cardio, while other days focus on nursing, client sessions, and planning for future fitness initiatives. It’s a demanding schedule, but it’s fulfilling because I get to work in areas I’m passionate about.
JC: Don’t give it ALL away, but what are some of your 2025 goals?
ST: In 2025, I’m focused on growing Evolve with Sunita to reach and help more people on their fitness journeys. Expanding into online training programs is a big priority, making fitness more accessible no matter where someone is. I’m also looking to collaborate with other fitness and healthcare professionals to provide even more value to my clients. On a personal level, I want to continue challenging myself physically and mentally, staying committed to my own growth while inspiring others to do the same. An exciting year ahead!
JC: When not working, we can find Sunita doing what?
ST: When I’m not working, you’ll likely find me spending quality time with my loved ones, exploring new fitness trends, or staying active through hobbies like hiking and yoga. I also love traveling, and whenever I can, I like to explore new places. Staying connected to my personal health routine and exploring new ways to maintain balance is crucial for me, so I prioritize those moments for my own well-being.
JC: Who is Sunita Chand?
