The secret is out in Power Book 2: Ghost. Tariq and Saxe both learned that Lauren is alive and now the gloves are off. Tariq figured he was saving Lauren by telling her to leave town. He left that in the hands of Brayden. However, being the normal scared kid that he is, panicked and Effie had to jump in. By doing so, she decided to go against Tariq’s wishes and believed she killed Lauren. But it didn’t go as planned.
Jenny Sullivan got wind and kept the story of Lauren’s death going but had her holed up in a remote place. Not only did she show her face to Tariq, but she also let him know what happened and who was responsible. What this means is that Tariq has a few difficult decisions to make regarding his team.
Should Tariq Kill Effie Over Lauren?
Killing Eff seems like the logical thing for Tariq but it comes with a heavy price tag. For one, Tariq and Eff are dating. While the pair seems to be in sync and the feelings are mutual, Tariq was with Lauren first. For Lauren, it looks as if Effie got her out of the way so she could make a move on Tariq. So, if Tariq were to kill Effie, he would be killing his girlfriend.
Secondly, no matter how shady things are, Effie, Tariq, Brayden, and Cane are all business partners. If something were to happen to her, that would essentially hurt business. Truth be told, they’re already having issues moving product with the 4 of them but if one were to go missing, that’s putting extra pressure on the remaining 3. Would Lauren move into that position? I think not.
Eff is just as smart as Tariq. She’s more like Tasha in that regard and I guess that’s what drew Tariq to her in the first place. But then again, she did kill the woman Tariq was with, lied about it, and has been keeping it a secret long enough. How will Tariq respond? What will hurt more is that Eff has wanted to say something but she never could get it out. Then you have Byraden. While he didn’t actually kill Lauren, he knew what Eff did and when Tariq finds out, that’s pretty much the same as putting her in the river himself.
But then comes a real moment of truth for Tariq. What will happen when everyone learns the truth?
Despite how Tariq feels about Lauren, she is still a liability to everyone involved. She can put Tariq, Brayden, Monet, Effie, Cane, and even the new African connect in prison with her testimony. That’s how dangerous her being alive is. Tariq is smart but is he smart enough to make the right decision? Killing Eff may be what he’s thinking now but in the end, it may be Lauren who needs to go.
