Indiana HC Darian DeVries on Vaughn Karvala:
“What I love about Vaughn, his upside. He has great length, great athleticism, great skill level. He can do a lot of things, dynamic things, you’re like OH! You see one or two of those in a practice.”
“I’m excited about what his future is going to look like, it’s going to be a process of growing and things as he goes, but a very, very very big upside for him.”

Q&A: Vaughn Karvala

MW: How was summer basketball and what was your biggest takeaway?
VK: Summer basketball was really good. I got to play against a lot of talented players and get more comfortable with the college game. My biggest takeaway was learning how important it is to stay consistent and keep working every day.
MW: What do you feel is the most underrated part of your game?
VK: I would say my ability to make winning plays. I try to do the little things that help the team whether that’s defending, rebounding, making the extra pass or bringing energy.
MW: What’s been your biggest challenge on the court you’ve faced so far?
VK: The biggest challenge has been adjusting to the speed and physicality of the college game. Everything happens faster so I’ve had to learn to make decisions quicker and stay confident.
MW: Where do you feel you’ve improved the most so far?
VK: I feel like I’ve improved the most with my decision making and understanding the game. I’m getting better at reading what the defense gives me and knowing when to score, pass, or make the right play.
MW: Your outlook on the upcoming season as a team and how do you feel you’ll contribute if given minutes?
VK: I’m really excited about the season. I think we have a talented group, and our goal is to compete at a high level and win. If I get minutes I want to bring energy, play hard on defense, rebound and make the right plays to help the team win.
