On Monday, the Los Angeles Rams probably made the biggest offseason trade with the acquisition of Myles Garrett. The Rams, who were already one of the favorites, may solidify themselves as favorites in the NFC with this trade. With this trade, the Rams have now traded their 1st round pick for the 9th time since 2017. LA, in return, exchanges Jared Verse, 2027 1st round, 2028 2nd round, and 2029 3rd round pick for Myles Garrett. In the 2027 draft, Cleveland will not only have 1 but 2 1st-round picks for their rebuild phase.
Drafted #1 overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2017, Myles Garrett racked up Hall of Fame numbers in 9 years. Since 2017, Garrett has led the entire NFL with 125.5 sacks, which is 10 more then TJ Watt. In 9 seasons, the only season where he didn’t achieve more than 10 sacks was his rookie year, with only 7. Along with the Sacks, Myles Garrett also racked up 2 defensive players of the Year in both 2023 and 2025. Last season, he went on to break the all-time single-season sack record with a total of 23 sacks in 18 games.
Los Angeles Rams:
Los Angeles needed to add some firepower to a defense that was middle of the pack in 2025. Last season, the Rams’ pass rush was already top-10 in sacks, with a total of 47 sacks altogether. Linebacker Bryon Young led the team in sacks, with a total of 12, which ranked 8th in the league. And the 2 other Rams pass rushers had more than 6 sacks, which were Jared Verse and Kobie Turner. Now, with the addition of Myles Garrett, the Rams aim to get more than their total of 47 sacks last season in 2026.
Since 2017, the Los Angeles Rams have traded their 1st round pick 8 times for elite talent around the league. General Manager Les Snead has always been an aggressive general manager who trades away draft capital for established players. This trade continues the Los Angeles Rams’ tradition of trading 1st round picks for highly established players across the NFL. Some teams usually draft and develop high level 1st round picks, but not the Los Angeles Rams and Les Snead. Trading for Myles Garrett on paper looks like a home run kind of trade that could end up being a championship move.
Cleveland Browns:
The Cleveland Browns say goodbye to one of their great players in franchise history, Myles Garrett, after 9 years. Losing someone like Myles Garrett seems to be the start of a rebuild for the Cleveland Browns and the team. This offseason has been a unique one with a new head coach in Todd Monken, who’s looking for an identity. And, the Browns actually came out of the 2026 NFL draft as one of the big-time winners with draft picks. But one question remains for the Browns: who’s going to be the week 1 starter come September for the regular season?
Cleveland in the 2027 NFL draft will not only have their pick, but will have the Rams 1st round pick. Where they could get that franchise quarterback that they have been looking for since 1999, after starting 42 different quarterbacks. This season will determine whether the Browns have their quarterback of the future or will draft one in 2027. With a rebuild most likely on the horizon for the Browns, this team will look at 2026 as a down year. With Garrett gone, the Browns will need to find a leader for the defense to fill Myles Garrett’s Absence.
Both the Cleveland Browns and the Los Angeles Rams made a big splash with this trade of Myles Garrett. The Rams are going all in for the 2026 NFL season with Myles Garrett now on this talented Rams team. While the Cleveland Browns are looking to rebuild on the defense with Garrett now in Hollywood. This looks like a trade that can be a fair trade on both sides when looking at it. Myles Garrett is a generational talent who will end up in Canton, Ohio, after his Hall of Fame career ends.
