Doesn’t Look Good For Christian Gonzalez

We are two weeks away from the season opener.  It looks like Christian Gonzalez and the Patriots aren’t even close to reaching a deal. If no deal is done by the start of the season, it’s best to believe Christian Gonzalez will be traded next off-season. Expect fake injuries and underperformance if he plays.

The Seahawks have signed their drafted players and just won the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, the Patriots are about to be on national television with them on September 9th to open the season, and there’s a chance Christian Gonzalez might fake a pulled hamstring injury because he’s upset that players on other teams and around the league got paid, but he hasn’t. For years, we’ve been saying it was Belichick who didn’t want to spend.  It seems it’s ownership. Good luck to Drake Maye next off-season.

Christian Gonzalez Wants To Be The Highest Paid

Get ready for Drake Maye to get the Tom Brady treatment about his contract.  “Look what we did for Tom.  He took less so we could surround him, and we won Super Bowls. He didn’t mind being the highest paid. Do you want to win or be the highest paid?”

Eliot Wolf Is Between Ownership and Christian Gonzalez

I don’t know; here’s a thought.  Maybe you can be one of the highest-paid and still surround the quarterback with talent? The salary cap is useless; owners are worth billions of dollars. Other teams are playing their players, except for the Patriots. God forbid you land on a draft pick because if they pan out, the likelihood of getting a second contract is unlikely. Here was Eliot Wolf the other day talking about a cash budget for Christian Gonzalez and Drake Maye.

It’s about a cash budget and things like that,” Wolf said. “So we’re very aware of the timing of these things, and we’re cognizant of having a plan for that.”

If we pay you, we won’t be able to go out and get other talented players. That’s ridiculous!  It’s an excuse.  They can afford it.  You don’t have Tom Brady to hide behind anymore.  He doesn’t even want to come back here.

Here was Adam Schefter on Christian Gonzalez.

I don’t think that Christian Gonzalez and the Patriots have been close to a new deal. They don’t appear to want to give him Devon Witherspoon-type money. I think there’s probably one more push by both sides to try and get a deal done before the season starts

Christian Gonzalez spoke the other day.  As he was speaking, Robert Kraft decided to land his helicopter, which many, including me, think was on purpose.

There’s certain things that go into a contract that my team knows what we want, so it kind of depends how you put it,” Gonzalez said when asked for details about what he’s looking for in this contract

In other words, his team, including his agents, is not on the same page with the Patriots, even though the Patriots keep pushing, saying they’ve offered him the highest salary. But he wants guaranteed money, not an incentive contract, which is what they want to do. Get ready for a fake-it-till-you-make-it Christian Gonzalez season if no deal gets done.
