College basketball has become an era of “One and Done” players, and high powered offense. On Monday night, Virginia and Texas Tech will take us back to the 1980s. Both teams prefer to win with defense and upper class leadership.

#3 Texas Tech vs. #1 Virginia:
The Cavaliers pulled off an amazing, last second win against the Auburn Tigers. Kyle Guy hit three free throws with 0.6 seconds remaining to seal the victory, 63-62. Mamadi Diakite had 5 block shots against the Tigers and Virginia had 9 blocks in their semi-final matchup. Ty Jerome had 21 points 9 rebounds and 6 assists. He played the game of his life.
The Red Raiders scored the last 9 points of the game in the victory over Michigan State, 61-51. Guard Matt Mooney scored 22 points and Norense Odiase had 9 rebounds. Big-12 Player of the Year, Jarrett Culver struggled most of the game, but hit big shots down the stretch.
Prediction:
This is a game that will be ugly at times and both teams will go on 3 to 4 minute scoring droughts. If Tariq Owens can’t play because of an ankle injury, that will be a huge loss for the Red Raiders. Over the past 9 games, Owens has 27 blocks. Kyle Edwards could play some big minutes off the bench if Owens can’t go.
The Red Raiders want to wear you down over 40 minutes. They are the best defensive team in the country and they have been the best team all- season long.
Take Texas Tech to win their first title in school history.
