The U.S. women’s professional 3-on-3 basketball league Unrivaled announced Wednesday that it is adding two new clubs for its second season, set to tip off in early 2026. The expansion will bring the league’s total to eight teams, with new entries Breeze BC and Hive BC joining the existing six teams. Wiki

A headline grabber: rookie Paige Bueckers will suit up for Breeze BC, marking one of the highest-profile additions to the league. NewYorkPost Meanwhile, Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark, both among the most talked-about women’s basketball players, will not participate in this season of Unrivaled. Sportskeeda

New Teams, New Opportunities

Breeze BC, one of the expansion franchises, has built a roster around the top-pick rookie Paige Bueckers. The team also includes Rickea Jackson, Dominique Malonga, Aari McDonald, Kate Martin, and Cameron Brink. Reuters
Hive BC, the second new franchise, features standout guard Kelsey Mitchell and veteran contributors Sonia Citron, Ezi Magbegor, Natisha Hiedeman, and Saniya Rivers. Reuters

For those tracking the broader women’s sports business landscape, the expansion signals Unrivaled’s increasing profile and ambition. By adding two teams, the league creates more spots for elite athletes and adds competitive depth.

Roster Notes: Big Names In & Out

Paige Bueckers’ inclusion in the league is a splash. After being selected No. 1 in the 2025 WNBA Draft, she signed a three-year deal with Unrivaled earlier in the year. Reuters

By contrast, both Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are absent from the current rosters. Clark, despite being a marquee name, is not listed among the 48 players for the season. CBS Sports Reese, a champion and featured star in the league’s inaugural year, will also not play this season. Sportskeeda

Strategic Implications

From a sports-operations and branding perspective, the growth of Unrivaled is noteworthy:

  • Two new teams increase the footprint and marketable match-ups.

  • The league’s ability to attract a top rookie like Paige Bueckers boosts its star power.

  • The absence of certain high-profile players (Reese, Clark) may impact audience expectations, but it also opens space for other stars to emerge.

  • For those considering roles in operations, communications, or branding within women’s sports, this league’s expansion reflects growing opportunities outside the traditional league structure.

What to Watch

As the season approaches, key factors to monitor include:

  • How the new teams perform and whether Breeze BC or Hive BC can disrupt the established clubs.

  • How the league markets the new rosters and navigates the branding impact of absent stars.

  • The development of off-court opportunities (sponsorships, media rights) as the league scales.

  • How this expansion influences player decisions about participation in off-season leagues and the broader ecosystem of women’s professional basketball. With rosters released and fresh franchises in place, Unrivaled is entering a new phase. For fans, athletes, and sports business professionals alike, this is a moment that signals the shifting landscape of women’s athletics in the U.S.
