The Washington Commanders needed a game they could feel good about, and Sunday night delivered. After a sluggish start that put them down 10-0, Washington settled in and took control, beating the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10 at home.
The turnaround started with the defense. Philadelphia’s early lead didn’t grow, and the Commanders kept making life uncomfortable for quarterback Tanner McKee. Washington finished with five sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble while holding the Eagles scoreless after the first quarter. Philadelphia struggled to move the ball, managing only 91 rushing yards.
Jayden Daniels helped Washington answer on the other side of the ball. He threw for 217 yards and a touchdown, and the offense gradually found ways to move the chains. With Terry McLaurin out for the season, Treylon Burks, Antonio Williams, and Stefon Diggs all had chances to contribute. Together, they totaled 173 receiving yards, and Diggs hauled in Washington’s touchdown pass.
The Commanders also got useful production on the ground. Rachaad White had 55 yards on 11 carries, while Austin Ekeler added 36 yards. White delivered the biggest run late, breaking free for 33 yards to set up his touchdown and help Washington put the game out of reach.
There were still some familiar frustrations. Washington and Philadelphia both turned the ball over and missed field goals, and the Commanders didn’t erase the deficit right away. But Washington stayed composed after falling behind, and the defense gave the offense time to find its rhythm. That response was a welcome change after a difficult opening stretch to the season.
The win moves Washington to 2-4-1 and gives the team a much-needed divisional victory. It also snaps Philadelphia’s six-game winning streak and lifts the Commanders out of the NFC East basement. The season still has a long way to go, but a complete defensive effort and a comeback under the primetime lights give Washington something to build on.
The Commanders now turn their attention to the Los Angeles Rams. They’ll need to bring the same defensive energy and keep finding answers in the passing game as they try to make Sunday night’s win the start of a stronger run.
