Football officially returned to Baltimore Wednesday morning, and Ravens fans couldn’t have been more excited.

Hundreds packed the Under Armour Performance Center for the first public practice of training camp, creating an atmosphere that felt more like a game day than the opening workout of the summer. From the moment Lamar Jackson stepped onto the field, cheers erupted from every corner of the facility as fans got their first look at a Ravens team with Super Bowl aspirations.

The energy wasn’t just coming from the stands.

Players looked loose, smiling between drills, celebrating big plays and feeding off one another throughout practice. For a team entering a new era under head coach Jesse Minter, there was an unmistakable sense of excitement surrounding the organization.

While Wednesday’s practice was held without pads, there was still plenty to take away from the Ravens’ first day of camp.

One of the biggest points of emphasis appeared to be offensive execution. New offensive coordinator Declan Doyle has discussed using cadence as a weapon this season, varying snap counts to keep defenses guessing and create opportunities to draw defenders’ offsides. Even during the opening practice, the offense appeared intentional with its communication and rhythm at the line of scrimmage.

The return of defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike also provided an emotional boost. After missing nearly all last season with a neck injury, Madubuike was back on the practice field and moved well throughout the morning, giving Baltimore another reason to be optimistic about its defensive front.

While much of the attention naturally centered on Jackson, several players stood out.

Second-year cornerback Nate Wiggins looked outstanding throughout practice. Whether working in one-on-one drills or team periods, Wiggins consistently stayed attached to receivers, limiting separation and making quarterbacks think twice about challenging him. He looked confident, physical and ready to take another step in his development.

Rookie Adam Randall also had one of the best days among Baltimore’s skill players. The former Clemson standout looked like a natural fit in the Ravens’ offense, showcasing explosive runs after the catch and playing with a physical edge despite the non-padded practice. He flashed the type of versatility that could earn him opportunities as camp progresses.

Jackson looked sharp from the opening period, delivering accurate throws throughout practice and showing why expectations remain sky-high entering another season. His chemistry with Rashod Bateman was particularly noticeable, despite Bateman missing portions of the offseason program. The two connected multiple times during practice, and their timing appeared to be in midseason form.

Zay Flowers also looked poised for another breakout campaign. The Pro Bowl receiver consistently created separation and showcased the burst that has made him one of Jackson’s favorite targets. If the first day of camp was any indication, Flowers is prepared to play an even bigger role in Baltimore’s offense this season.

Ja’Kobi Lane looked comfortable working with the starters, particularly on routes over the middle of the field. At the same time, Bateman and Tez Walker each made impressive, contested catches in traffic that drew attention from those in attendance.

One veteran who quietly stole the show was Chris Moore. Moore seemed to make highlight play after highlight play throughout the morning, putting together one of the most impressive performances of the day and reminding everyone that experience still matters in a crowded wide receiver room.

Perhaps the most encouraging takeaway from Day 1 was how polished the Ravens looked for the opening day of camp. Even with new coaches, new concepts and players still easing into football shape, the offense and defense both showed early wrinkles that suggested Baltimore is further along than many teams at this stage of training camp.

Of course, it’s only one practice.

The pads haven’t come on yet, roster battles are just beginning, and the intensity will continue to increase over the coming weeks. But for one morning in Owings Mills, the excitement surrounding the Ravens was impossible to ignore.

The crowd brought the energy. The players matched it. And if Wednesday was any indication, Baltimore is eager to begin writing the next chapter of what it hopes will be a special season.
