Mac Jones will be the Patriots starting quarterback in 2023 period. He isn’t going anywhere sorry Zappeites. Bill O’Brien was brought to New England to fix Mac Jones and get him to where he was in the 2021 season. The setback in 2022 was 100 percent on Bill Belichick which is why Kraft stepped in and made sure O’Brien was in place for 2023. The rumor that Josh McDaniels might want to trade for him was probably a thing. However, with Kraft now in the football operation because Bill has declined since Brady left will make sure Jones is the quarterback in 2023.
Mac Jones Has Friends In That Locker-Room
Mac Jones has a lot of friends in that locker room. They all believe in him and think he didn’t get the best chance to succeed in 2022. Regardless of his on-the-field antics toward the coaching staff last year I don’t see that happening in 2023 with O’Brien. O’Brien first of all would put Jones in his place. Secondly, I think the offense would be much better than it was with Patricia and will have a better flow to it. I think Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith will be more involved. Also, there will be no in the doghouse for Kendrick Bourne who should be Mac’s go-to target in 2023.
I’m sure Bill wasn’t pleased with the way Mac Jones handled himself this season with his on-the-field antics and asking for help from outside the organization. However, the blame is more on Bill for putting Patricia and Judge in that situation because they were getting paid by other teams. Judge by the Giants and Patricia by the Lions.
Bill O’Brien Was A Robert Kraft Decision
Bill O’Brien wasn’t a Bill Belichick decision it was a Robert Kraft decision. He said so in a recent interview that he had full cooperation with Bill Belichick to hire Bill O’Brien.
Kraft knew changes needed to happen in order to be successful. The Patriots will build a team around Mac Jones this off-season. They aren’t getting Derek Carr, Aaron Rodgers, or any other veteran. They aren’t starting Bailey Zappe how did he do in the second half of the Bears game last year? You should see a more humble relaxed Jones next year with a real offense and quarterback coach.
Mac Jones Will Improve With A Number One Receiver
Look at all these quarterbacks when they get a number one receiver they perform better. Jalen Hurts got A.J. Brown last off-season and just played in the Super Bowl. Josh Allen gets Stefon Diggs and the Bills have won the Division for three straight seasons. Joe Burrow has Ja’Marr Chase and Te Higgins the Bengals have made the AFC Championship game two years in a row.
Finally, you have Deboo Samuel with the 49ERS and rookie Brock Purdy looks like he’s been in the league for years. You give Mac Jones any number one receiver, and his game will get elevated. The third year is the most crucial in his development and it’ll be better than last year.
The only quarterback that works with less talent at receiver is Patrick Mahomes who just won the Super Bowl. That is the same thing Brady could do to make everyone around him better.
