As we wrap up the year 2022 we wanted to have our staff come together and share their favorite moments of the year and why. It is always fun to take a look back at the past 12 months and remember those games, interviews, or plays that had us talking about them for days. We saw some legends call it a career, teams shock us with great or really bad play, as well as new names become household names. We saw a World Cup, Olympic Games, and the return to normal with fans in the stands.

With 2022 coming to an end. My greatest sports moment this year has to be when Stephen Curry proved he could win a championship while being also winning the finals MVP. The narrative about Curry was that Durant carried the Warriors to their championships in 2017 & 2018. Curry proved his doubters wrong and got his first-ever finals MVP this year.

For 2022, my favorite sports moment came in February as the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in the Superbowl. I became a Rams fan in the 1970s because my hero…my dad was a Rams fan. To be able to see our Rams win the Superbowl together is a moment I will never forget. What made it even more special is sharing that moment with my youngest son, Ramon, who is the only Rams fan among my kids.

My moment of the year, of course, is from the “Game of the year.” With 1:59 left on the clock on 4th and 18, the Minnesota Vikings were down by four points, 27 – 23. This was the whole game on the line quarterback Kirk Cousins dropped back and heaved the ball from inside his 20-yard line all the way across midfield to the Bill’s 46, where Justin Jefferson leaped into the air and, with one hand as he became horizontal in the air took the ball away from the defender and maintained possession all the way thru to the ground. FIRST DOWN! More than that, it’s the greatest catch in the history of uh …… Ever! The “Catch of the Century!” in the “Game of the year” is my epic moment of the year.

Serena Williams swan song performance at the U.S. Open. Went out like a champion, and showed her spirit, determination, and sportsmanship. Classy all the way.
My favorite sports moment of 2022 was when the New York Mets pitched a no-hitter with 5 pitchers. Tyler Megill, Drew Smith, Joely Rodrigues, Seth Lugo, and Edwin Diaz combined to throw nine no-hit innings against the Philadelphia Phillies in a 3-0 win, the 17th combined no-hitter in MLB history. The only other time the Mets pitched a no-hitter was by Johan Santana, who did it in 2012.

My favorite sports moment from this year for me would be Stephen Curry’s Performance in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. He put up 43 points in a pivotal, momentum-altering game where the outcome would dictate the rest of the series. He also had 10 rebounds. He took the game over essentially on his own. It’s fair to say that without his performance, the Warriors wouldn’t have another championship added to their mantle. I know there are plenty of moments to choose from but this moment not only cemented a game. This moment cemented a series. This moment cemented a championship. This moment cemented a legacy. Oh and this moment cemented a Finals MVP.

My favorite sports moment of 2022 is, hands down, Chris Pauls 14-14 perfect shooting night to close out the New Orleans Pelicans in Round 1 of the 2022 NBA Playoffs. The stage was set, in the city, he jump-started his career, against the franchise that drafted him, & he took the moment. First player in history to make 13+ shots without a miss in a Playoff game. The thing is, when you apply the context of the type of contested shots he consistently takes, then applies it to a stage where he’s in the crosshairs of all tactics from the opposing defense, it really makes this feat near-unfathomable. Point God.

My sports moment of 2022 is the Lavar Cup Doubles match with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. It’s important because it represents the last time we will see (arguably) the greatest tennis player of all time in a professional capacity. Roger was the ultimate professional, both on and off the court and will be missed. The real moment, though, is the moment shared between Nadal and Federer and what it means. In a time of division and divisiveness, two of the greatest rivals we’ve ever seen showed compassion. They competed for over a decade and still showed that they are still great friends. Their tears went a long way toward civility in sports whilst still wanting to be the best.

The release of Brittney Griner was my favorite moment of 2022 as well as the concerted effort to free her during the WNBA season.

Hello! Kristy Love here. The most memorable game for the Bears for me will have to be week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers. It’s a few reasons why I selected this game. One, the Bears made a comeback after being down 0-7 in the first half. After this game, they became known as a second-half team. Two, the Bears passing regime became relevant for a split second as Fields connected with Dante Pettis and Equanimeous St. Brown for touchdowns. Three, the bears played in flood weather conditions as it was pouring down in Chicago ALL day. I also cannot forget the touchdown RB Khalil Herbert made after safety Eddie Jackson got the pick on defense. This has to be the best game the Bears played all season long. They looked the happiest and had the most fun.

UW Badgers Sprinter L.O. Johnson won a Gold Medal at the NACAC Championships in the 4×100 relay becoming a USA Gold Medalist.

For me, my favorite moment in sports in 2022 was seeing Erin Jackson become the 1st black woman to win a medal in speed skating. Breaking the mold and inspiring minorities to give winter sports a shot. And I will cheat and give a second one and say seeing the effort and passion displayed to get Brittney Griner home. My brand my rules lol.
On behalf of my entire team thank you for making 2022 so amazing for us! CHEERS
