The last season is over and done with we all know what happened and how badly things ended. Now that we let that go we move on to a new season for the Georgetown Hoyas men’s basketball team. Coach Patrick Ewing who admitted he took a look in the mirror brings a whole new team and attitude to the year. We saw whole sell changes on the roster and the bench. The Hoyas bring 9 new players to this year’s teams and some new voices on the staff. The issues at LSU provided Georgetown with the opportunity to add some talented players from the school down south along with a good coach. With his local ties adding Kevin Nickleberry to the role of associate head coach. Pat Baldwin is part of the Hoyas family and, we saw player favorite Clinton Crouch promoted to assistant coach. Once again going with the theme of a fresh start for the upcoming season.

Coach Ewing, Brandon Murray and Qudus Wahab were available during today’s media availability.

I asked Qudus about this year’s team.

Guards:

9 new players are looking to have a positive impact on the season. That is a lot but in the era of the transfer portal, I expect this to be the new normal. It’s a mix of versatile wings, guards, and big all of which Coach Ewing and his staff will have to figure out and mold. Welcome home Jay Heath (Who awaits an NCAA answer on his status) and Brandon Murray both guards bring scoring punch and experience to the table. Like everyone on the team, the question is what is their role and how long until it is figured out. Dante Harris will not start out with the team as he handles a personal matter. Primo Spears a transfer from Duquesne should be in the guard mix along with freshman Denver Anglin. Strength should be at the guard position.

Brandon Murray is preparing to play in his first game at Georgetown.

I asked him if he had a message for the fans and supporters. #Hoyas pic.twitter.com/v1BViY5BuH

Forward/Center: If you needed any other sign that college basketball has changed we have inter-conference transfers. The Hoyas grab versatile former Uconn Huskies big man Akok Akok you can’t teach 6’10 and he has a nice touch from the outside as well. Where at his former school he did not play a ton due to injuries, hopefully, it is a whole different story at the Hilltop. Paired with Qudus Wahab they should be a matchup nightmare and solid rim protectors and finishers around the hoop. Speaking of Wahab he is back after a year of playing for that other team in the DMV. Coach Ewing has not been shy about excited he and the staff are to have the big man back who showed such progress before leaving. Last season we had no real eraser in the paint or guy to bang for those tough boards. Bryson Mozone a grad transfer, LSU transfer Bradley Ezewiro, and freshman D’Ante Bass also round out the position. All their roles are to be determined as well as coaches finding out what they do well.

55 Victor Muresan 6-11 185 F Jr. Potomac, Md. / Georgetown Day School

As a longtime fan, I can’t help but be excited about what this team will become. The whole program is energized about the new season. What roles will everyone play? How long will it take for them to gel? Former MEAC Rookie of the Year Wayne Bristol Jr. is on this team and has been waiting forever to hit the floor how does he fit? These are just some of the things I am looking for this year. For more Hoyas content make sure to check out Patrick Waring and me on Hoyas Weekly. Joe Cardoso

Joe Cardoso here! I’m the epitome of a sports junkie. An alum of the College of Southern Maryland, I received a diploma from the Maryland Institute of Broadcasting (MIB). During my tenure at MIB, I was a news/sports major and had the opportunity to intern at Fox 45 sports and Ravens Radio. I also worked as an overnight board operator for Sports Talk 980 ESPN Radio. I’ve been a total sports fanatic pretty much from the womb. My first love is soccer followed by basketball and then football. My favorite athletes are Kevin Garnett and Marino Rivera and my sports teams are the Yankees, Commanders, Michigan, Wizards, and Chelsea. My passion for sports is never ending. My sister once commented that I would probably follow pig racing if it was a sport!
