The WNBA Finals are a few days away, and two stellar teams will compete for a championship. The Atlanta Dream defeated the Washington Mystics and the New York Liberty to get to this point, and if they win, it will be the franchise’s first championship.
The Golden State Valkyries defeated the Dallas Wings and the Las Vegas Aces to reach the Finals, and they could win a title in their second season. Golden State is a strong team, and as the WNBA grows, teams will try to follow their lead.
One of those teams is the Toronto Tempo, and their first season was a learning experience. They finished the season with a record of 11-33, and they ended the season with a loss to the Connecticut Sun. That was their eighth loss in a row, and it started with an 88-78 loss to the Aces.
While the season ended on a bad note, there were plenty of positives. The Tempo picked up wins over teams such as the Seattle Storm, the Los Angeles Sparks, the Phoenix Mercury, and more. Marina Mabrey was Toronto’s star, and she averaged a career-high 20.8 points. She is the franchise’s first All-Star, and another Tempo player earned an honor as well. Kiki Rice made the All-Rookie Team, and she did it after averaging 13.4 points in 28 games.

Toronto Finds Core Players
Both Mabrey and Rice will play a key role in the team’s success, and come draft time, another player will join the mix. The 2027 draft class could feature talent such as JuJu Watkins, Madison Booker, and others.
Toronto could add a special player, and that will put the squad a step closer to success. The Tempo’s goal of reaching the playoffs could be a few seasons away, but having the right talent makes that task easier.
Overall, Toronto’s season had its ups and downs, but this new team is headed in the right direction.
