Damon Sims will not be a featured character on All American Homecoming in Season 3. While the reason has been labeled as budget cuts as to why Peyton Alex Smith is not returning as a series regular along with Kelly Jenrette, the one thing we can take away from this news is that Damon was not the one that Simon picked at the end of Season 2.
But what does that mean for Damon Sims going forward?
All American Homecoming was the story of Simone and Damon. While it did not have to be centered around a romance, they were the main stars of the All-American spinoff. Now, Damon will be put to the side and no one knows how fans will take that.
What could they possibly do? This may be the best time for a time jump, something that I spoke about in an earlier piece. With this, the writers could explain Damon’s absence much better than showcasing everyone else on campus and leaving him out.
The same will be done for Jenrette (Amara Patterson) who will also take a reduced role. At the end of Season 2, she and Marcus (who will also get a reduced role) were just getting used to their rekindled relationship when his estranged wife showed up unexpectedly at his front door.
Where Is Damon Sims
Despite the back and forth between Simone and Damon, their storyline was still the foundation of the show. How will the writers replace their dynamic while still keeping the bones of Homecoming in place? There is still no news on Thea Mays and if she will return for Season 3 either.
Damon Sims is a huge part of a few storylines from the show. He entered wanting to know more about his birth parents. He finally got the truth, but for whatever reason, the writers still managed to put distance between Damon and his biological parents. And his adoptive mother just completely vanished altogether.
For Simone, I guess it’s all about her and Lando now. While that may be the best pairing, it’s still going to be slightly weird to not have Damon around. There is no way to ignore the absence of Damon and Amara without telling the whole story.
Maybe Damon is too heartbroken to stay at Bringston University and decides to do the same thing Thea did and turn pro. There are options the writers can take but what happens in Homecoming will affect what happens in All American and vice versa. It also hurts to know that we won’t get to see many scenes with Damon and JR, especially with the health scare we were shown at the end of Season 3.
Despite fewer crossovers, the shows are still tied together. There is no way All American Homecoming can do a time jump without All American doing one as well. And with both shows possibly ending after their upcoming seasons, this is a great way to tie up loose ends. With Damon not being a central figure moving forward, the writers have the green light to showcase more but it still won’t be the same.
