It appears that fans of All American: Homecoming may be losing one of its main characters heading into Season 3. Thea Mays, a central character since Season 1 could be done with the show in a major capacity. Thea decided to turn pro in Season 2 and since then, her screentime on Homecoming has dwindled. Not to mention, that her relationship with Damon Sims is over, so this may be the perfect time to squeeze her storyline out of the show.
Thea Mays is once the rival of Simone Hicks before they became friends and then she became romantically involved with Damon Sims. But Thea’s story has mostly revolved around Tennis. We were given a rather brief insight into her past but there are still things about Thea we’re missing. Compared to Simone, Keisha, Nate, and the others, Thea has not been focused on enough.
There has been no official word from actress Camille Hyde or even the Network if she’s departing All-American Homecoming, but one has to wonder how they will keep the Thea storyline moving forward. According to NCAA rules, no player, if deciding to go pro can play in any collegiate games, and with Bringston University under those guidelines, Thea will not be allowed to join her former teammates on the court. Now, she may be able to go back on her decision as fans were never given the facts regarding her leaving Bringston.
Should All American Homecoing Dismiss Thea Mays
As far as her Bringston University story goes, Thea can still be around the campus but with the hectic schedule she’s sure to endure once joining the Pro Circuit, where will that leave time to still hang with the college students? it makes sense if she’s writing out but the writers need to find a way to make sure she’s not completely gone.
The Thea Mays and Damon Sims storyline appear to be over as Damon has professed his love for Simone. This was done after Thea told Damon she wanted him back. Is it wise to take another trip done this rabbit hole? There is no way a relationship between the two could work even if Damon were to tell Thea the truth regarding his feelings for Simone. How could she ever trust them two around one another? Thea has not shown any interest in another male at Bringston so that may be a lost cause in itself.
While she did become friends with Nate, Thea was still on the outside looking in with everyone else. Hell, she wasn’t even that close with the rest of the Tennis team, to be honest. It’s like Thea is the new Denise Huxtable. All the promise of a great storyline until she was gone and A Different World still thrived in her absence.
I’ve always been a fan of Thea’s and her leaving would be a hard pill to swallow but the way the writers have set up her arc like in Season 2, leave us wondering if she will return for Season 3.
