The Patriots have undoubtedly upgraded their defense; however, their offense remains a significant issue for second-year quarterback Drake Maye. They lack a competent offensive line and have just released David Andrews. While they signed Mac Hollins from Buffalo and a lineman from the Jets, it seems like a solution to their problems. Unfortunately, Drake is heading into his second season potentially lacking support and protection. On the bright side, at least the defense looks promising..
The Patriots Don’t Care About Building Around Drake Maye
The Patriots held a press conference today to announce their free-agent signings on defense, along with the addition of one offensive lineman. From what I gathered listening to Vrabel, he doesn’t seem too worried. Did he notice what this offense has become over the last couple of years? I also read on Mass Live that Cooper Kupp is considered too expensive. Are you serious? You literally have Drake Maye, your franchise quarterback for the future, and you’re saying that helping him is too costly? If that’s the case, then why did you waste the number 3 pick on Drake last year? I know the reason: for PR purposes.
It seems that the Krafts currently do not want to offer Drake a second contract because they are unwilling to pay him the money. Instead, they appear to be taking a cheap approach, allowing Vrabel and Wolf to surround Maye with minimal support, which could lead to spoiled Patriots fans chanting, “Maye sucks,” in a few years. This organization is a joke. Belichick undoubtedly ruined Mac Jones, but it doesn’t seem like the Krafts provided any help either; here is Vrabel from today.
The Money Is there to Help the defense but not Drake Maye

I don’t want to hear that the Patriots still have the draft in a month because I have news for you: they struggle to draft competent wide receivers or offensive linemen. Eliot Wolf mentioning that Matt Groh is taking on more of a scouting role is concerning, especially considering Groh’s tendency to draft fast players like Tyquan “bust” Thornton.
Are the Patriots really going into Drake Maye’s second season without a left tackle and wide receivers? Are they sticking with the same roster they had last year? Is it really going to take until year three for them to surround this kid with the talent he needs to succeed? What is going on here? Is it just so they can avoid paying him at the top of the quarterback market? I hope Mac Jones excels in San Francisco and proves the Patriots and Belichick wrong. The Patriots are becoming inept.
