Every Tuesday or Wednesday, we post 5 Things We learned About the NFL.
5 Things We Learned About Week 6 in The NFL:
5) Terrible loss by the Dallas Cowboys:
The New York Jets got their first win of the season by defeating the Cowboys, 24-22. Dallas was down 21-6 and slept through the first half of this game. To their credit, the Cowboys outscored New York,16-3 in the 2nd half but it wasn’t enough. This is a game you can’t lose. The Cowboys are looking to win the NFC East and they don’t show up against a Jets team that hasn’t won a game. This loss is solely on the shoulders of Jason Garrett. It is the coaches job to make sure his team doesn’t play to the level of their competition. If the Cowboys don’t make the playoffs, this loss will be the reason.
4) The Jamies Winston show should be canceled:
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now 2-4 after their 37-26 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Winston was horrible again. He had 5 interceptions and 1 fumble, for 6 turnovers. Winston has 12 touchdown passes on the season and 10 interceptions. For his career he has 99 touchdown pass, 68 interceptions and 43 fumbles. He has the most turnovers of any quarterback since 2015. It is time for the Bucs to admit they made a mistake and move on. He has been a total bust, on and off the field, as the number 1 overall pick.
3) Freddie Kitchens is in way over his head:
The Cleveland Browns are 2-4 after losing to Seattle 32-28. The Browns accumulated 9 penalties in their home loss. They continue to be undisciplined and lead the NFL in yellow flags. Baker Mayfield threw 3 interceptions and Jarvis Landry had 3 catches for 36 yards. In 5 games, Landry has 22 receptions. Landry, who holds the record for most receptions in the history of the NFL over his first five seasons, has been relegated to a role player. This team is dysfunctional and has no identity. It will only get worse for the Browns. Over their next three games they play the Patriots, the Broncos and the Bills.
2) Are the 49ers the best defensive team in the NFL?:
San Francisco is 5-0 and they are doing it with a dominating defense. DeForest Buckner is the best defensive lineman, no one outside of the Bay area knows about. Buckner and Khalil Mack are the only defensive players in the NFL with at least 15 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Rookie, Nick Bosa, is amongst the league leader in pressures and he is a nightmare match-up for any offensive coordinator. He can beat you with speed and power. The 49ers held Jarred Goff to 73 passing yards on Sunday.
The 49ers defensive rankings are scary:
Total yards: 237.4 … Ranked 2nd.
Passing yards: 150.2 … Ranked 1st.
Rushing yards: 87.2 … Ranked 6th.
Points per Game: 12.8 … Ranked 4h.
1) 11 Teams passed up on Deshaun Watson…why?
Deshaun Watson was the 12th overall draft pick in 20017. That means 11 teams passed on him, why? Watson helped the Texans defeat the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-24. The former Clemson star, is now 13-4 in his last 17 starts, Patrick Mahomes is 11-5 during that time. Watson has a record of 7-0 when he gets sacked once or less. No one outside of Houston talks about Watson but he is an elite quarterback and he may be the best QB in football right now.
Bonus Coverage:
The Packers came from behind to defeat the Detroit Lions on Monday Night, 23-22. Aaron Rodgers worked his magic again, despite having practice squad wide receivers on the field. The Packers are 17-3 vs the Lions at home, since 2000.
The Steelers upset the Chargers 24-17. LA has now lost 5 of their last 6 primetime games.
The Broncos beat the Titans,16-0. Marcus Mariota was benched in the 2nd half. Mike Vrable is the worst offensive coach in the NFL. The Titans game plan is the same every week. Run on first down, run on second down and on 3rd and long, throw a 9 yard slant. Marcus Mariota has had 4 different offenses in 5 years. He deserves better and Vrable should be fired.
Russel Wilson has completed 72% of his passes, has 14 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He is my early favorite to win the MVP.
Baker Mayfield complained about the referees after the Browns lost to the Seattle Seahawks, 32-28. Baker had 3 interceptions in their loss. He is completing 56% of his passes had 5 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 6 games. Over his last 20 games he has 25 interceptions.
Teddy Bridgewater has now won 7 of his last 8 road starts. The Saints are doing just fine without Drew Brees.
The Panthers are 5-0 over Kyle Allen’s last 5 starts. Cam Newton is done in Carolina.
