The Chicago Bears find themselves sitting at 2-1, tied with Greenbay in the NFC North. No one expected the Bears to be 2-1 as most football fans and analysis had the Bears winning 3 games for the entire season. How I don’t see the Bears losing the rest of their games this season to be true, we cannot deny the fact that the Bears have the worst passing game in the NFL as of now. With our opponent being the New York Giants coming up, the Bears need to find out ways to get their passing game together as they need to score a lot of points to beat them.
Justin Fields:
Justin Fields is having a bad season thus far. That doesn’t equal the fact that he is a bust or is not “ the guy” for the Bears. He is having a rough start, plain and simple. What makes this week’s matchup a little better, Daniel Jones is even worse in this 4th season with the Giants. The question is, how does Fields move up from here? It’s evident that he is in his own head while out there on the Field. He is not showing any level of confidence or progression. One thing for certain, if need be, Fields will run the ball downfield to get the first down. Outside of that, if the Bears are not running the ball, we will have quick 3 and outs.
Bears Offense:
The Bears rank dead last as of now in passing in the NFL. Nothing more than that. This is a huge reason why Fields is having a hard time getting something going. Outside of Emquanimeous St Brown, Cole Kmet, and Darnell Mooney haven’t done much of anything through week 3. The offense needs to run the ball through Khalil Herbert and David Montgomery if he is available to start this week. If we run the ball, we can develop some sort of passing and getting our receiving core active from the run game. Running the ball will also give Fields some protection as well. We cannot forget about developing the passing game for running the ball. Someway somehow, we must get Darnell Mooney and Cole Kmet involved. Mooney right now has 4 catches for 27 yards going into week 4. To be our top WR, we need more. Plain and simple. After the week 3 victory over the Houston Texans, Mooney was on the field catching passes from the passing machine to work on his passing game. Hopefully, that will go into week 4.
Defense:
The Giants don’t really have a receiver core. Outside of Saquan Barkley, they have literally no offense. The rest of the offense and TE are horrible. Stop Barkley, and you more than likely get the win. The Bears defense has been great, from Eddie Jackson getting picks to Roquan Smith’s 16 tackles in Sunday’s game against Houston. Apply pressure to Giants QB Daniel Jones. If you can make him uncomfortable and apply pressure, Jones will fold. We all saw how the Dallas Cowboys applied pressure to the Giants offense and Daniel Jones on Monday Night football. Those will be the Bears’ 2 key objectives on defense to stop the Giants. Apply pressure on Jones and stop Barkley from making plays.
Points:
The Bears are underdogs by 3 points. Giants are favorites by 3 points. Bears and Giants are pretty much an even matchup. Both have poor offense so far this season. Both teams are 2-1 going into week 4
Injuries:
WR Sterling Shepard is out for the year with ACL Tear. David Montgomery is listed as day-to-day with a knee/ankle injury. Khalil Herbert, 20 carried for 157 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns against the Texans. If no, Monty, we are still good with running the ball. If I was Monty, Ill sit out this week and come back stronger in week 5.
The Game will be broadcast on Fox 32 Chicago. Kickoff it at 12 pm CST.
