The Patriots changes for 2025

The Patriots season is over and Sunday’s game against the Bills means nothing but having the number one overall pick in the draft. The Patriots aren’t beating Buffalo even if Josh Allen didn’t play because their defense just isn’t good enough. Drake Maye has made some great plays and looks like he’ll be a good quarterback in the league just like Mac at the end of 2021. It’s all about the second year jump. Jerod Mayo will be back but will Alex Van Pelt? DeMarcus Covington? Other positional coaches on defense? Those are the questions.

Patriots

The Play calling on offense has been questionable so it wouldn’t surprise me if Alex Van Pelt is out after Sunday. Maybe they give Ben Macado the offensive coordinator job and demote Alex Van Pelt to like an assistant quarterbacks coach or something. On the defensive side DeMarcus Covington is not a coordinator and just should be a position coach. They need to hire a defensive coordinator this off-season because that side of the ball has regressed substantially.

With the Patriots probably getting the number one pick they’ll either draft Travis Hunter or trade down to get an offensive tackle or something. Eliot Wolf knows they need an offensive tackle and wide receivers that they’ve been needing for years. The most important thing for 2025 is surrounding Drake Maye with an offensive line, wide receivers and getting a better defense.

The Patriots need to make changes this off-season

Here was Eliot Wolf before the draft last year

We are open to anything. Moving up, moving down: we are open for business in the first round and in every round,” Wolf said about trade discussions. “We have some holes we feel like we need to fill in the draft, and we are a draft and develop team. The more picks we have, the better. But if there’s an opportunity to move up and strike, if the board recommends it, we won’t be afraid to pull the trigger on that either.”

Wolf will probably say the same thing this off-season when it comes to the number 1 pick which they’ll probably get after Sunday when they lose to Buffalo. They really probably should draft Travis Hunter then get an offensive tackle. Is Travis Hunter worth a number-one pick? Who knows but drafting him or trading down for a tackle would be good.

Wolf was asked last year if he could support a rookie quarterback with what they had. I wonder what he’ll say this off-season here’s his answer from last year.

“I read a lot of that storyline. I’m not really sure what that means. We have a solid offensive line. We re-signed Mike Onwenu, we have David Andrews coming back, we have three rookies that we drafted last year that are developing, we signed [Chuks] Okorafor from the Steelers. Hunter Henry. A good running game. A solid foundation and a solid system in place with Coach Van Pelt on the offense. I definitely like that we can support [a rookie quarterback],” Wolf said.

Okorafor got cut earlier this season, Lowe is a dumpster fire and they haven’t had a backup center since David Andrews got hurt. It’s a priority to get a left tackle and reliable lineman this off-season or Wolf and Mayo will probably be gone.

The Patriots will not trade Drake Maye

The Patriots aren’t trading Drake Maye this off-season to draft a quarterback. That is the dumbest take of all time. Drake Maye is the future why would you trade him to pick a quarterback you don’t know will be good?
