The Los Angeles Rams are in an offseason after being one game short of reaching the Super Bowl. Yet, they entered the off-season with a win-now mentality and looked to strengthen their roster. The moves the team is making, including free-agent signings and trades, have fans excited about the upcoming season.
At the end of last season, the Rams front office, led by GM Les Snead, looked to rebuild the secondary. It was seen as a weak link in the Rams’ defense. The Rams made an immediate splash in the offseason by trading for Chiefs defensive back Trent McDuffie and signing free agent Jaylen Watson. Both players bring an immediate upgrade to the Rams’ secondary. McDuffie is expected to be the Rams’ top cornerback and will match up against opposing teams’ top receivers. The ability of both McDuffie and Watson to play man coverage will allow the Rams’ defense to use more blitz packages in their schemes. The biggest move the Rams made has fans imagining a Super Bowl parade.
The Rams made a blockbuster trade, acquiring DE Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Jared Verse and future draft picks. Garrett, the reigning DPOY, brings an immediate presence in the Rams’ pass rush. Coming off the right defensive edge, Garrett can expect to see multiple double teams throughout the game. This helps the Rams’ interior defensive linemen, led by Braden Fiske and Kobie Turner. They will have more one-on-one matchups in their pass rush.
The addition of Garrett will allow Defensive Coordinator Chris Shula the ability to use different defensive fronts to confuse offenses this season. Ram fans can expect to see a highly motivated Garrett this season. He comes to a loaded team that will be a favorite to win the Super Bowl before acquiring Garrett. The acquisition of Garrett puts the Rams at the top of the Super Bowl contenders.
The Rams have a history under Snead and Head Coach Sean McVay. They often trade away future picks to build a win-now team. In the year the Rams won the Super Bowl under McVay, they traded for quarterback Matt Stafford and acquired Von Miller and OBJ during the season to help get the team over the hump. This year, the Rams made the moves they believed were necessary to get the Rams back to the Super Bowl in the off-season. Fans will not be surprised if Snead pulls off another huge trade during the season. Especially if he believes it will help the Rams win it all this season.
In blockbuster trades, teams always have to say goodbye to a fan favorite, a player who was a great asset to the teams success. The Rams had to say goodbye to Jared Verse. He was an important part of the Rams defensive success last year. The Browns are getting a tremendous defensive player that fans will be happy to see in a Browns uniform. Ram fans thank Jared Verse for his time with the team. He played with so much heart and inspiration. Verse represented the Rams better than anyone could have imagnined.
The Los Angeles Rams have a win-now team with winning the Superbowl squarely on their minds. The team bringing in McDuffie, Watson and Garrett improves what was a good defense last season and turns it into a potential top 5 defense. Ram fans have a lot to be excited about in the upcoming 2026 season. It is going to be a wild ride.
