For the first time since 2019, the battle for the Solheim Cup is taking place on Dutch soil, to be exact. The best of the best in women’s golf from the United States and Europe tee off this tournament; it won’t disappoint.
The Setup:
September 11-13, Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt, near ‘ s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. This course, designed by Kyle Phillips, has hosted the Dutch Open 3 times, but this is a whole new level we are talking about: 24 of the game’s best, three days, 28 points on the line, 14.5 points needed to reclaim the cup/
The Stakes:
Team USA is the defending champion after a 15.5-12.5 win at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in 2024 and still leads overall 11-7-1. But if you dive deeper, Europe has actually won or retained the Cup three of the last four editions; this is a real rivalry. I believe that home continent advantage matters in match play.
Team Europe:
Captain Anna Nordqvist is a blend of firepower and fearlessness. My girl Charley Hull leads the automatic qualifiers into her 8th straight Solheim Cup. Lottie Woad and runner-up-turned-second-qualifier Ester Henseleit are right behind her. Nordqvist rounded out the 12 with veteran Leona Maguire, and fresh faces and game rookies Julia Lopez Ramirez, Nastasia Nadaud, and Mimi Rhodes. This gives the team a young, hungry edge, a move from years past.
Team USA:
Under captain Angela Stanford, this team has players who have lifted trophies at majors. Nelly Korda, Angel Yin, and Jennifer Kupcho lead a team that also has match play experience. USA also brings Megan Khang, Rose Zhang, and rookie Lindy Duncan, who was the captain’s pick. I look at the team as a combo of fresh legs and experience; the same formula USA had in Virginia two years ago. Will it work again?
What To Watch:
We get foursomes and fourball on Friday and Saturday, then all 12 players go head-to-head in Sunday singles. All the formats favor chemistry as much as talent; the pairings will tell us a lot. The rookies from Europe will be tested in this pressure cooker. But with it being on home soil, it won’t be hostile at all. If there was a time for Team Europe to make a statement, this is it. I can’t wait to see how it all shakes out.
See you at the turn.
