With everything that transpired in the Season 4 finale of Raising Kanan, most may have missed something important regarding Marvin. We’re being set up to believe that Marvin will die in Season 5. You want further proof? All we have to do is listen to Jukebox and watch Marvin.
Since the original OG Power, we wondered who this crazy, bloodthirsty female cop from DC was. Come to find out, Juke was Kanan’s cousin. They were tight right until Kanan killed her.
Raising Kanan viewers learned they were more sister and brother than cousins. But it’s Juke’s story that made us hate Marvin at first, and then a different story that made us love Marvin later on. As Raising Kanan progressed, so did Marvin’s story and character. Marvin is still putting in work on the streets of Queens but he’s a better father than he was in the beginning of Raising Kanan.
But as Juke was telling Iesha in the Season 4 finale, when she asked Juke about leaving Queens, Juke told her she could never leave her father alone. There is no one she trusts to look after him. We were so caught up in meeting Breeze, dealing with the Unique revenge tour, and Kanan spinning out of control, some may have missed the hints regarding the upcoming death of Marvin.
Marvin is not a choirboy in any sense. He has more bodies in the streets than any character on the show. However, this is not to say that he doesn’t have a good side to him. Marvin held his promise and got Amber into a good home. His goodbye to her was more than a see you later gesture; it felt like a final goodbye. Marvin knows the walls are closing in on him. That may be his last good deed.
Think back to the original Power when we meet Juke. She’s a cop out of the DC, not NYC. According to her, the only thing that was keeping her in NYC was her father. But if Marvin is gone, why would Juke stay?
Season 4 was a turning point for her character as we saw glimpses of the character we meet in the OG show. But we all wondered what turned her so violent. It had to be one thing: the death of her father. With nothing else to hold on to, Juke became a menace and rightfully so. The one person who had her back is no longer here.
This past season, you can start to see the divide between her and Raq. The divide between her and Kanan, and while the bond between her and Lou is not broken, what she shared with Marvin is stronger than any other bond on the show. Their past is just that, and they both have moved on. But with the way Marvin is moving lately, his demons are about to catch up to him.
Kanan is out for blood, and that includes his mom. Even in the OG Power, Juke and Kanan still referred to each other as blood, but seeing what we saw then and knowing what we know regarding how close they were, it’s not the same. Jukebox becoming a cop in another city after stating she would never leave Marvin is all we need to know regarding what happened.
