Power: No Fairytale Ending In Raising Kanan

No matter how Power: Raising Kanan ends, one thing we know for sure, it will be heartbreaking. From what we already know, the Power Universe has not been kind to its main characters. And this show will be no different. There is not an episode that goes by and I think, “Man I can’t wait to see what happens next.” Well, truth be told, we do know what happens, to a certain extent.

Fans want to know what happened between Kanan and his cousin Jukebox. Why did Kanan kill his blood the way he did? Hell, why did Kanan kill his only child Shawn in the original Power? Both scenes were heartbreaking and fans wanted to know the story behind them. We’re getting there now with Raising Kanan and yet, it’s still a hard pill to swallow.

To go further into the heartbreak of Power, we don’t know anything regarding what happened to Famous. We know that Shawn was named after Kanan’s best friend but where is Famous? It appears that he dies but viewers don’t know how.

As far as his family goes, while everyone was in the drug game, what happened to Uncle Lue and Marvin? Did both of them die as well? The same question is raised regarding his mother and father.

His mom was a QueenPen and his father was a detective. In the original Power, his father was never brought up and his mother was given just a one-line mention. Back then, maybe the writers had no idea they would be given a green light for a prequel and just added things to the scripts with no foundation of the past.

If we’re going off that and from what we’ve seen so far, then tradegy is about to strike everyone in his life thus resulting in the menace we see in the original Power. That would make more sense but it’s still sad to see.

How Will Power: Raising Kanan End

Viewers have characters to either love or hate in Raisinf Kanan. Famous can be a pushover at times but the brotherhood he and Kanan share is real. Marvin is a loose cannon but he has shown the most growth in Season 3. Lou is fighting demons that has him heading down a slippery slope. Raq wants her son back and by doing so, she showing a side that’s becoming unlikable. Juke is taking a stab at music but we know she becomes a cop.

No one is left in Kanan’s life. Is that what drove him to become the crazy character we were introduced to? What drove him to become this way? Was it Ronnie? Is Ronnie Breeze? Yes, Ghost did send him to prison but we have to believe that Kanan was already on that path well before then.

In the original Power, we cheered for Ghost as he wanted out of the game and do something legit with his life. Tommy still wanted to become a Kingpin and he’s living out those dreams in Chicago now. But then came Kanan and his backstory was a mystery. He had ties to Tommy and Ghost but where did Kanan come from?

We have the answers now and with each episode, we have fallen in love with certain characters knowing they won’t be around in the end. That’s what we get when we are giving prequels. It adds to the foundation of the backstory but it also widens that hole in our hearts knowing there will be no fairytale ending.
