With the series finale of Power: Force complete, we can see where the Power Universe is headed, and that’s for another spinoff that will feature Tommy and Tariq titled Power: Legacy. The nephew and uncle duo will join forces and look to become kingpins in Chicago and New York. But is it a good idea?
Let’s be honest here, I’ve enjoyed the Power Universe over the years, but this one seems to be a reach. Tariq’s story ended where it should have, and so did Tommy’s. But at this point, it’s more of a money grab by the studio and producers.
In no way am I completely knocking Power: Legacy, but why do we need this? This is a storyline centered around Tommy and Tariq teaming up, but who asked for this? It was hard enough on the eyes watching this disrespectful kid turn into some college-type drug lord running the streets of NYC with just Brayden at his side. This little kid managed to outsmart drug dealers who have been in the game for decades, a cartel, and an undercover informant, and now, he’s about to join forces with a straight menace in Tommy, and we’re just supposed to keep believing this?
Despite their once-tight bond, what do they have in common? Tommy is a grown-ass man, and Tariq is still just a kid. The point of Power: Force was for Tommy to leave New York and build something of his own outside of Ghost. Well, he set up something powerful in Chicago, and the point of Power: Ghost was to have Tariq become his own man. Now, here comes Tariq, and he’s filling nonsense in Tommy’s head about coming back home. But wait, Tommy is supposed to be dead, right?

The only thing they have in common now is their quest to be top dawgs. But that’s what makes this show so unbalanced. Last time we saw Tariq, he was busy cutting ties or taking away power from those close to him. Now, he wants to partner up with a person he and his mom tried to set up, and one who tried to kill his mom at one point. And if it wasn’t for the promise he made to Ghost, Tommy would have killed Tariq the first chance he got.
Tariq has a new supplier and muscle behind him, but bringing Tommy back into the fold will put Tariq in a bad spot with those around him. Tommy is not going to sit back and take orders from someone he does not know. Tommy is a boss. Tariq is still learning. Eventually, they will bump heads. To be honest, I’m a bit disappointed in Tommy due to the fact that he knows Ghost wanted Tariq nowhere near the game, and yet, here he is partnering with him.
The Power Universe continues to grow with its storylines, but at some point, they have to know when to throw in the towel. Yes, we’re finally getting the Breeze storyline with Raising Kanan and Power: Origins is in production, but another spinoff focusing on Tommy and Tariq, that’s a bit too much now.
