The NFL is a team sport except when it comes to Patrick Mahomes. When he’s mentioned, the Chiefs’ teams wins turn into him against the opposing QBs. So keeping with that trend, what does that say about him and Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles?
Since their win against the Eagles in Super Bowl LVll, the Chiefs are 0-3 against the Eagles. Oh, wait, let me put it in Mahomes’ terms, as the media and other fans often do. Since their win in that Super Bowl, Hurts is 3-0 against Mahomes.
Let me guess, you don’t like the way that sounded, right? So, now it’s a team sport? I guess stats and statements like that only matter when Mahomes is on the winning end of those arguments, right?
Nope. We’re not doing that today. For all the talk of how Mahomes continues to be the kryptonite for Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, it appears that Hurts is the kryptonite for Mahomes.
Since they play in different conferences, their main battles will happen in the Super Bowl. They are split down the middle of that one. But regular season, Hurts does have the edge there. Imagine if the Philadelphia Eagles played in the AFC. Mahomes may not have had the career he’s had. It’s like how Eli Manning and the New York Giants had Tom Brady and the New England Patriots’ numbers whenever they faced off.
As great as he has been throughout his career, the truth is, Hurts has more than shown he’s at the level. No, the Eagles don’t have more Championships than the Chiefs during the Mahomes era, but neither of their careers are over. Hurts can catch Mahomes, and if he does, then what?

The fact that Jalen Hurts continues to be put outside of the Top 5-10 by some NFL experts is mind-boggling. Ask Mahomes, Travis Kelce, or Andy Reid what they think of Hurts, and right there is where the truth lies.
Hurts is a winner, much like Mahomes. It’s just that Mahomes has had that consistency with players and coaches, and once Jalen Hurts got his, well, you see where he has led his team. Mahomes had a head start.
With all that, let’s take it back to the beginning of this piece. All I’m asking from everyone is to show Jalen Hurts the same respect that’s shown to Mahomes for the way he keeps his so-called competition in check. Mahomes can look over at the Bills, Ravens, and damn near any other team and say, “I got you.” Hurts can look over at Mahomes and say, “I got you.” Let’s be fair about it.
