With Week 3 of the NFL wrapped up, let’s look at the top five worst NFL head coaches.
1. Brian Callahan, Tennessee Titans – Callahan has been an NFL head coach for 20 games, with a record of 3-17, giving him the lowest win percentage in NFL history at .176% for coaches with at least 20 games. Hired to improve the Titans’ offense, Callahan’s tenure has seen it perform worse than under Mike Vrabel. Cam Ward has shown flashes of NFL-caliber throws, but through three games, he looks lost. Callahan likely won’t see a third year.
2. Raheem Morris, Atlanta Falcons – This is Morris’s third stint as an NFL head coach. He coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009-2011, posting a 17-31 record with one winning season. As interim head coach for the Falcons in 2020, he went 4-7 over 11 games. In his current stint with the Falcons, he is 9-11, making his overall Falcons record 13-18 with no winning seasons. His career record stands at 30-48, a .385 winning percentage. Morris excels as a coordinator but struggles as a head coach. I predict he won’t get another year with the Falcons.
3. Zac Taylor, Cincinnati Bengals – Taylor is in his seventh year as head coach of the Bengals. He’s had only two losing seasons, both his first two, and led the team to a Super Bowl in 2021 and an AFC Championship in 2022. However, since 2022, the Bengals have looked poor and haven’t finished in the top two in their division or made the playoffs. Under contract until 2026, and with the Bengals’ reputation for frugality with coaching changes, Taylor is likely safe until his contract expires. Sorry, Bengals fans—you’re stuck with him for another year.
4. Brian Daboll, New York Giants – Daboll is in his fourth season as head coach. His tenure started strong in 2022, with a playoff appearance and a win over the Vikings in Minnesota. However, the Giants won only nine games combined in 2023 and 2024. Despite fan calls for his firing after 2024, I commended the Giants for sticking with Daboll, giving him time with his quarterback. Starting the 2025 season 0-3 suggests the fans may have been right, and Daboll, the so-called “QB whisperer,” should have been fired. I still have faith, but the Giants need to bench Russell Wilson for Jaxson Dart immediately. If the Giants don’t turn things around, a complete staff overhaul is likely.
5. Dave Canales, Carolina Panthers – A surprise hire from the 2024 coaching cycle, Canales was brought in to elevate Bryce Young into a star after helping Baker Mayfield regain form. However, Canales benched Young for Andy Dalton in 2024, though Young finished the season strongly, restoring belief in his potential. In 2025, Young has regressed. The Panthers have a bottom-three roster in terms of talent, so how much blame falls on Canales? If he can finish second in the division, which is possible, he might save his job for another year.
