There are times when it’s hard to ignore and not compare the comics to the Movies. In the MCU, it’s an ongoing battle for some. A person such as myself was never that hard into comics but I love everything about the MCU. In Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever, we were given a glimmer of hope. Not only for the mantle of Black Panther but for one of the best storylines ever in Marvel comics. There is a chance we may still get a T’Challa and Storm relationship after all.
Following the death of Chadwick Boseman and the announcement that someone will take on the mantle of Black Panther, hope was lost for such a union. However, Marvel has a strange but unique way of doing things their way no matter what the naysayers will say.
With Shurri being the new Black Panther as she was in the comics, it wasn’t until the end of the film that hope was restored. For comic readers, they know that Storm and T’Challa were married and had a child. While the pair would meet in their younger years, it wasn’t until later on that they would reconnect and marry forging a powerful union among superheroes.
The backstory is all good but for MCU purposes, the ending scene in Wakanda Forever sets the stage for what can happen. For years, Disney has fought for their lost characters which Fox owned. And now that Disney has control of their characters, most notably, X-Men, Marvel can now introduce them into the MCU. Think Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which introduced Reed Richards (Fantastic 4) and Professor X (X-Men) into the MCU.
To further that notion, we know that Wolverine will be in the new Deadpool movie and that means, there’s a sight chance that somewhere down the line, we could see Storm and T’Challa share the screen together. But how if T’Challa is dead?
We Need The Storm and Black panther Marriage
Well, the T’Challa that we know (Boseman) is dead. However, Marvel was wise to name his child with Nakia–T’Challa after his fallen father. See, in the MCU nothing changes. We just don’t get the version that we know. We will get to watch a younger version of Prince T’Challa much like the comic version. Remember, when Storm (Ororo) first helped T’Challa, they were both young. And since we have no idea of who will play Storm or when the X-Men film will take place, there is a strong chance that we may get a backstory to who Storm is, and then we may get to witness their first encounter which will set up a future story.
While that end credit scene in Wakanda Forever was for emotional purposes, Kevin Feige knew exactly what he was doing. With Boseman at the helm, there was no way they could have played the Black Panther and Storm relationship card with T’Challa already in love with Nakia. Now that they own the rights to X-Men and now with a young T’Challa, they get a mulligan.
