Mac Jones Puts The Loss On Himself

Patriots had plenty of opportunities to win the game on Sunday against the Eagles but came up short. The offense got off to a slow start with an interception by Mac Jones that went off Kendrick Bourne’s hands. They played from behind all game down 16-0 early. I give credit for Mac Jones and the offense to battle back in the second quarter, but they should’ve scored when they got the ball coming out of halftime.

Mac Jones and Offense missed out on winning the game

The Eagles wanted to give that game away yesterday. Patriots had plenty of opportunities to take advantage of that. I think Mike Gesicki could’ve gotten even more so involved than he did. Jones finding Henry and Bourne twice for touchdowns was good. Honestly Mac Jones looked like he did his rookie season.

There were improvements of a functional offense for sure but Mac took so much of a step back last year that he played like his rookie year yesterday. I’m sure that will change as the season goes on but the offense needs to get off to good starts so they aren’t playing from behind.

I don’t believe in moral victories. Mac Jones could’ve found anyone but a rookie receiver to throw to on 4th down with the game on the line. He didn’t and Boutte couldn’t get his other foot down.

Steve’s three up and three down

My three up from the game are as follows

Christian Gonzalez

Keion White

Hunter Henry

My three down

Ezekiel Elliott

JuJu Smith-Schuster

Bill Belichick

Mac Jones took the Blame

Mac Jones spoke after the game and put the loss on him.

Not good by me,” Jones said during his postgame press conference. “They gave me the ball twice to win the game, and I couldn’t do it. I’ve just got to go back and watch and see what I can do better, but as the quarterback, that hurts, right? You get a chance to win the game twice and can’t do it.

“So, just gotta learn from it. You only get so many opportunities in the NFL to do that, and I felt like I definitely let the team down. At the most critical times, I played my worst. So just gotta go back and look and see what I can do better. That’s all you can do is learn. That’s what you do as a good quarterback. You go back and learn. And when it’s the hardest, that’s when you need to play your best.”

I put JuJu Smith-Schuster in my three down because he should’ve been the go-to on the 4th down play late in the Fourth quarter. That’s why you brought him in here right? To replace Jakobi Meyers who had two touchdowns yesterday for the Raiders.

But Jakobi Meyers talked shit about Patricia so instead we’ll pay Smith-Schuster who can’t be on the field at an important part of the game so Jones finds Boutte who can’t get both feet down.

Also, Belichick not kicking a field goal with plenty of time left in the game is ridiculous. Belichick doesn’t trust the rookie kicker if that’s the case why get rid of Nick Folk? At least he was good for you last year. Belichick got snippy when asked about not kicking a field goal with plenty of time left in the game down in the Red zone.

Made the best decision we could at the time,” Belichick said. “Didn’t know we would be down there multiple times. Six minutes to go in the game. I don’t know. If we had kicked it, I’m sure you would be asking why didn’t we go for it.”

The effort was there but this is not a moral victory. Yes, nobody expected the Patriots to win yesterday but they missed on plenty of opportunities to win the game.
