Mac Jones Had His Best Game Sunday Against The Browns

Mac Jones has been the perfect choice at quarterback for the Patriots. He has led the Patriots to a 6-4 record and they are real contenders in the AFC. The dominating win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday was very impressive. So far this season Jones has a 68% completion percentage and has thrown for 2,135 yards. His touchdown pass to Kendrick Bourne Sunday was something we would have never seen from Cam Newton last year. The Patriots rank third in points per game with 27.5 Jones loves to spread the ball around and he does a great job at making plays.

What’s also great about Jones is he stands in the pocket and doesn’t let anything phase him. If something doesn’t go right the very next play it’s corrected. Jones ranks first in the rookie quarterback rankings this season. He has been the best one that was drafted. The team around Jones is pretty solid with receivers and two tight ends. Even the running game is pretty good. Robert Kraft made a great decision taking Mac Jones at pick 15 in this year’s draft. Belichick probably would’ve rather drafted someone on defense but when Jones slipped to 15 there was no way Kraft was going to let Belichick take someone other than Jones.

Mac Jones Has Improved Each Week

This is what Jones said after Sunday’s win.

“Overall, great team win and that’s how you want to play the game of football. I think it starts with the offensive line, they deserve all the credit in the world. We did hear a lot about obviously Cleveland’s front and they have a good front and we have a really good offensive line, and I’m proud of them. And then obviously everyone making the plays that they were supposed to make, they did a great job and that’s what happens when you play football like that. You score a lot of points and it becomes way more fun and you’re scoring touchdowns and the defense is going out, they are getting stops. Special teams are making their plays, so it’s just a three-level game and when we click on all cylinders, we can be pretty good.”

“Yeah, we called it and it was another red zone play that Josh did a good job of putting together and the line gave me plenty of time and KB ran a good route and he was my read and I threw him the ball. He also made a really great catch. There was two guys right there and he just said, “that’s my ball” and made the play. So that’s how we want our receivers to play, and all of them to do that. So it’s really fun when you can throw it and know that they are going to attack the ball in the red zone.”

Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne also praised Jones after Sunday’s win

“Mac always looks poised. I don’t know what it is. He’s just driven in different ways, wired a different way. He’s just relaxed and I think that’s how we all need to play. He’s not thinking about the next play. He’s not thinking about the last play. He’s thinking about the current play. That mindset can take you far in this league when you have that kind of mindset. I think he has it. It’s easy to dwell on the past. It’s easy to get caught up on what’s ahead and what’s coming. He’s good at just being in the moment and fixing what he’s got going on right there.”

Patriots Play On Thursday Night

The Patriots will now turn the page quickly as they prepare for a visit with the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night. But the AFC is wide open and the Patriots should even win the division I think they could take on the Bill’s and be back as top contenders in the AFC again.
