Heisman Trophy Winner, Kyler Murray tweeted:
“Fully committing my life and time to becoming an NFL quarterback.”
A few weeks ago, on The Full Monte Football Show, I said I was no longer “all-in” on dual threat quarterbacks.
Over the past 20 years, the only two QB’s to win a Super Bowl, who throw and run effectively are Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson.
Rodgers and Wilson are amongst the leaders in the history of the NFL for 4th quarter efficiency. I have changed my mind about Murray. He can do the things that these two hall of fame quarterbacks can do.
He has elite speed, he was 2nd in QB efficiency in college this year, and he is very accurate passer. The former Oklahoma Sooner Quarterback is an absolute playmaker on offense.
There will be some challenges.
Murray is listed as 5’11 195lbs. He is more like 5’9 175lbs. He looked small in college, he will look dimunitive in the pros. He will struggle at times with defensive players knocking down balls at the line of scrimmage and seeing passing lanes clearly.
Murray will have to take a page out of Wilson’s book in Seattle. Russell rarely takes hits and slides almost all of the time.
I wouldn’t be shocked if the Jacksonville Jaguars take Murray with the 7th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
I would take a chance on him. With all the rule changes, the NFL has become a passing league and they do everything they can to protect the quarterback. I don’t think Murray will ever win a Super Bowl, but he is worth a shot for a team that is desperate for an offensive playmaker.
