It won’t look any different with Drake Maye starting this Sunday. Spoiled Patriots fans are thinking that every quarterback is Tom Brady, which is just dumb. We will never see another Tom Brady quarterback walking through those halls again. The closest person we have in the league is Patrick Mahomes, and he’s obviously not walking through those hallways either. Drake Maye, like Jacoby Brissett, has a horrendous offensive line and literally wide receivers that are a bunch of three receivers.
The offense won’t look better with Drake Maye. They can’t block
Starting Drake Maye on Sunday against the Houston Texans is a panic move considering where the team is after this past week. After the Peppers news, it’s clear they feel that Drake gives them that spark. Other players on the team felt they were putting their bodies on the line, so why shouldn’t Drake? I don’t trust this fanbase, who completely acted like spoiled brats these last two seasons when it came to the quarterback position.
What the fanbase did to Mac Jones in 2022 and 2023 because of Belichick’s immaturity was gross and an example of how the fanbase thinks everyone is Tom Brady when they come to play quarterback here. It’s ridiculous. I don’t want to hear it this Sunday that Drake Maye sucks or anything like that when he’s getting sacked from a weak offensive line.
Mayo didn’t like Brissett’s play on Sunday. Turns to Maye next week
Jerod Mayo wasn’t happy with Brissett’s play on Sunday.”
The Patriots are rushing it. They should have played him against Jacksonville in London, not against one of the best pass-rushing teams in the league like the Texans. Even worse, it’s at home in front of entitled fans who will be chanting for the backup quarterback Bailey Zappe to come back if Drake doesn’t perform well due to the circumstances around him. Why not start him in week 4 against the Dolphins? Probably because nobody on the team got arrested yet. But I think after the Peepers’ arrest on Saturday and the loss on Sunday, they panicked and are turning to Drake Maye now. It’s a mistake.
I also believe there was internal turmoil among the players on the team who were putting their bodies on the line, while Drake was just standing on the sideline. Why not put him out there? So here we are, with Mayo deciding to go to Drake and listen to his players and read the room.
There was absolutely no need to rush him out there. I’ve been saying for weeks that they should have signed a veteran to back up Jacoby to give Maye more time to develop. But they didn’t do that, so here we are: a 1-4 team making a panic move at quarterback, or the locker room will be lost. Will they play hard for Drake? Sure. But will the offensive line miraculously play great? No. Will the receivers be better? No. There’s no reason to play him other than for PR and to avoid losing the locker room.
