Imagine If Brock Purdy and Mac Jones Switched Places

Let’s rewind to the 2021 NFL Draft when the 49ers were slated to take Mac Jones instead of Trey Lance and the Patriots landed Davis Mills in the fourth round. The 49ers would’ve gotten their quarterback of the future and Belichick would’ve gotten who he wanted a fourth-round inexpensive quarterback so he could sign special teams and defensive players. A Davis Mills is exactly what Belichick would want at the time someone that wouldn’t question his coaching decisions.

Imagine if Mac Jones was drafted by the 49ers in 2021

The Patriots would’ve went 7-9 probably with Davis Mills in 2021 even with Josh McDaniels as offensive coordinator. They would’ve gotten blown out by the Cowboys and Buccaneers. The 49ers still would’ve gone 10-7 and Mac Jones would have a legitimate number-one receiver that he could grow with in Deebo Samuel. They probably wouldn’t have won the Super Bowl, but things would be looking up for Mac.

Brock Purdy gets the Patricia experiment instead of Mac Jones

In 2022 Belichick puts Patricia and Judge to run the offense while drafting Brock Purdy in the seventh round to back up Davis Mills. With the confusion from the Patriots side to put two coaches with no experience to run an offense, and to coach that position, Mac Jones has a leap year with the 49ers. He continues to grow with two great receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Ayuik. He also has an elite tight end in George Kittle. The 49ers probably make the NFC Championship game again in 2022 with Mac Jones. Meanwhile, Brock Purdy if does get into the game for the Patriots sucks so bad because his receivers and coordinators are garbage. He looks how Mac Jones would look if he was on the Patriots and so does Davis Mills.

This year the Patriots bring in Bill O’Brien but Purdy is the quarterback but is playing the same. While Mac Jones is tearing it up with the 49ers. Why? Because Belichick doesn’t build around the quarterback doesn’t matter who the coordinator is if you don’t have playmakers it’s not going to work.

As we switch to the way it actually is you see my point that Belichick things building a strong defense over offense means you win. It did 20 years ago but the league has changed and now it’s a quarterback and building around him league. There are many coaches I would take to coach this Patriots team. Mike McDaniel, Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay.

Here is general manager of the 49ers talking about Brock Purdy being a consistent quarterback every week.

“I mean, it’s been very consistent. And I don’t even think we need to defend that because you look at the numbers, you talk to people who know football, he’s for real. We’ve got a ton of belief in him. We’re better with him. And you see it every day.

“It’s not like just a flash-in-the-pan thing. It’s consistency. He’s a machine, and I think he’s continuing to get better, and that’s an exciting thing for us. He handles everything so well. What a godsend he was to this organization. And just his approach, the way he goes about things, trying to get a little bit better each day, the preparation he does, it’s hard to hang with our head coach and our offensive system.”

Again look at the talent he’s throwing too. It’s a fact if Mac Jones played on the 49ers he’d be elite and if Purdy were on this Patriots team he wouldn’t be good or maybe even on the bench.
