Of course, Jerry Jones went off on the guys at 105.3 The Fan this week. No, Jerry, you didn’t hire the hosts and agree to be on the air with them—something I have utterly despised. This arrangement occurs because you are the team’s general manager.
When questioned by the trio, you instead went off on them and failed yet again to answer the questions Cowboys Nation wants you to answer. Why did it take so long for you to give Dak Prescott and Ceedee Lamb new deals? Both of those deals could have been done last February or March. Why don’t you sign free agents who aren’t the bottom feeders? Why do you insist on re-signing your guys? The Dallas Cowboys have failed under your regime for 29 seasons to even appear in an NFC Championship game. No other General Manager would have kept his job; why do you believe you’re the only guy who can do the job? See Jerry Jones. Real General Managers watch college teams, so they have a solid idea of who to draft.
How I Fix The Dallas Cowboys Offense
On my first day as the new Dallas Cowboys General Manager, my first act would be to ban you from the airwaves permanently. No other NFL owner has been on the radio or TV as often as you have. To make the NFL the “Brand,” you would love to discuss your entire focus. And take your idiot son with you. See, player agents despise Stephen Jones, and so does the fanbase.
My next act would be firing Will McClay as the team’s number-one scout. I’m sorry, but far too often, his second-round selections have sucked, and I don’t want coaches telling my scouts who to draft. This led to Taco Charlton being drafted instead of TJ Watt. Kelvin Joseph and Luke Schoonmaker were both terrible choices in the second round, and many other decisions have also sucked in the second round.
Jerry Jones would no longer pronounce Tyler Smith as a left tackle selection. As far as I was concerned and said so, he was an All-Pro Left Guard. I would have announced that and ensured we still paid Smith highly.
My next decision is to NEVER give a long-term contract to any player coming off an ACL injury. Michael Gallup and Terence Steele were both players who needed to prove they could play again before I gave them a longer-term contract. Trevon Diggs signed before he had his ACL injury.
Tyler Guyton played right guard at Oklahoma, and that’s where I would put him back into playing. I would sign a new free-agent left tackle. Guyton has struggled, as is expected with a rookie, but he played much better at correct tackle, and his play shows he isn’t ready to switch to the left-hand side.
Terence Steele would be released or traded for a lower-round draft pick. Zach Martin is getting older, and TJ Bass should be the next right guard. I will miss Zach Martin, but his time to play has to end sometime soon.
Next, I would fix the running back room—something I demanded during the YouTube TeamNBSMedia.com Draft Central program on days two and three of the 2024 NFL Draft. They even missed out on signing any of the decent running backs in the UDFA marketplace. I would trade for Nick Chubb if he appears decent after his surgery. The Clevland Browns have no more guaranteed money on Chubb’s contract.
Jerry and Stephen Jones refuse to make moves like that. Even that would only be a temporary fix. The 2025 NFL Draft is loaded with many excellent running backs, and yes, if we select high enough in next season’s draft, you will hear me say Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty’s name as a first-round pick for the Dallas Cowboys.
With my extra second-round selection, I can add a wide receiver, and another running back from this intense draft class can also be added.
How I Fix the Dallas Cowboys Defense
Trevon Diggs, if I see you playing one more game like you did against the Detroit Lions, you will be out the door in a heartbeat. You know, I was never a massive fan of Deion “Prime Time” Sanders because he hated to tackle opponents. Diggs, when you refuse to tackle opponents, that’s a line you don’t cross with me.
I am rebuilding the defense since Demarcus Lawrence (Such a shame his current injury means he can’t be traded to a Super Bowl contender) will also leave the Dallas Cowboys. I would also consider trading Micah Parsons. You see, Parsons’ podcasts don’t bother me as much as they used to. In this NFL season, you also see why teams need defenders who stop the running game. Something I have bitched and moaned enough with Parsons since he first came into the league. I can get a first-round pick and other picks for dealing away Micah Parsons and at least another second-round pick for Trevon Diggs.
I have constantly said that getting quarterback pressures matters much more than sacks. Watch the number of interceptions that Diggs and Daron Bland have gotten off of quarterback pressures by Demarcus Lawrence.
My oh my, with the extra first-round pick, unless Jeff Kent, who stands at 6’3″ and weighs 340lbs from “That School Up North,” is still available with the second first-round pick, there are many other defensive tackles I can select, and solidify a group that has been abysmal and has remained so under Jerry and Stephen Jones for years. Mazi Smith was a horrible selection, and I would have taken Keeanu Benton from Wisconsin before Smith in the draft. There’s nothing against him playing for “That School Up North.” It came from the fact that Smith was never a “finisher,” while Benton did finish his plays. Then, I must decide whether to give Osa Odiguzwa a second contract. If not, yes, I would have enough money to sign another free-agent DT.
The Next Head Coach
I would do an accurate head coaching search. When Mike McCarthy was signed, and Marvin Lewis was the “Rooney Rule” candidate, you just knew that. Jerry Jones had no intention of signing anyone who wasn’t a yes-man. I would hire Ben Johnson, the OC from the Detroit Lions, or I would sign the next best candidate if he isn’t available. My only rule with the next head coach and his assistants is you will coach who we draft, you can have input, but you better damn well understand if my scouting team likes someone more than you do, my decision at the draft is to go with the scouts. With the free agency market, I would consult the current coaches in that realm far more than Jerry and Stephen currently do.
If I were the actual general manager, unlike Jerry Jones and his idiot son, I would have a much better relationship with player agents, and you can damn well be sure I would bring in players who have succeeded with teams that play in the Super Bowl.
This way, Jerry Jones, you can relax and let someone who understands what the needs on the field indeed are. Then you can be worth much more than the over 10 billion dollar “Brand” you have successfully built.
My next head scout for the Dallas Cowboys would be Jeff Barnes from Draft Central. Let’s see how much he agrees with me regarding my proposed changes to the Dallas Cowboys.
