Graham Rahal Belongs

As part of a lineage of some of the greatest families in the history of Indy car racing, Graham Rahal is showing he belongs amongst the sport’s legends.

The 31-year-old son of 1986 Indy 500 champion Bobby Rahal is entering the 104th running of the world’s greatest race with a clear focus and determination that COVID 19 cannot disrupt.

He is starting in the 8th position driving the United Rentals car owned by his father. He is still in good company on the track driving amongst other legendary names as Andretti, Kannan, and Castroneves.

Also, note that Graham is amongst legends in his racing career. His work spans beyond the sport and into popular culture.

From 2007-2010, he drove for driver and movie icon Paul Newman.

His involvement in community engagement led Graham and his wife to create the Graham and Courtney Rahal Foundation. They dedicate it to assisting children with medical conditions.

He is currently behind the wheel of a car David Lettermen, Indiana native and legendary comedian and talk show host, co-owns.

Graham has been nurtured and has come of age surrounded by greatness. It’s like Whitney Houston growing up with her mother, Cissy, cousin Dionne Warrick, and godmother Aretha Franklin.

Social Hero

He is also somebody who has found his voice in a call for social change.

In the aftermath of the police murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, Graham lent his voice to social media. He posted one of the most heartfelt and eloquent messages calling for justice.

The US greatly needs a white athlete calling for racial justice, and it’s long overdue.

The circumstances surrounding COVID did not dampen or undermine the thrill of driving at the Brickyard.

“Experience is different, but I am locked in and looking to win,” he said.

The best way to describe Graham Rahal is as a driver with a strong foundation family and moral wise with a commitment to his craft no matter the case.
