Demario Douglas Needs To Be On The Field All The Time

The Patriots beat the Bills because Mac Jones found his slot guy Demario Douglas. Douglas was always getting open and made some big catches. It changed the dynamic of the offense having him out there. It allowed Kendrick Bourne, Hunter Henry, and Mike Gesicki to make some big plays.

Mac Jones when he has his go-to receiver gives him more trust in what they are doing. DeVante Parker only saw one snap while JuJu Smith-Schuster was home watching the game instead of being on the sidelines with teammates. Matt Judon didn’t play in the game either and he was on the sidelines. Goes to show you how useless Smith-Schuster is and how reliable Demario Douglas is.

Demario Douglas Could Be Mac’s Security Blanket

I saw how Douglas was in training camp and he was very fast. The Patriots should’ve used him more last month but it is what it is. Maybe they found their niche with Douglas.

The Patriot’s win Sunday gave Mac some confidence that he can march down the field in crunch time and come out with a win. It also means they need to use Douglas more in the passing game because he can get open. Here is what Belichick said after the game about Douglas

Yeah, I mean, Pop’s [Demario Douglas]’s quick. You know, he got some separation on a few routes, made a couple tough catches. The seam pass was a good catch. He got held on the play action over route on the first drive, I think it was. Short yardage play. Yeah, I mean, the big thing for all of us is just obviously, offensively, ball security. From every person on the team. So quarterbacks, receivers, running backs, tight ends. Everybody who handles the ball, if we can just take care of the ball, that will help us a lot. And so, it’s the number one thing for everybody.

Mac Jones needs a security blanket that he hasn’t had all season. Jakobi Meyers was that guy until Belichick got rid of him for a washed-up JuJu Smith-Schuster. Even in the Brady years, he would have his go-to receiver Mac didn’t have one until Sunday. Douglas can be that guy for Mac it just took a month into the season to form.

Mac Jones spoke after the game about sticking to the process.

Yeah, I just think sticking to the process, as I talked about. It’s hard when the results aren’t there. But continue to do that and continue to get better. We left some stuff out there, as always. But at the end of the day, we fought back. And the offensive line, especially, just gave me the time I needed today. And when I have time, I can read the offense how we’re supposed to and I appreciate those guys.

That should be the game plan going into Miami feed Douglas get a quick start and score early. I don’t think the Patriots beat the Dolphins this week but yesterday’s win over Buffalo was the spark the team needed.
