It was bound to happen. The moment Deion Sanders-led Colorado Buffaloes upset 17th-ranked TCU Saturday, the nation was going to be filled with new Colorado Fans. But where did they come from?
Where were these fans when Sanders left Jackson State? Where were those fans when he took the job at Colorado? Where were those fans when the media, other coaches, and people around the CFB Nation were calling Sanders a sell-out? Better yet, where were all the cheers and “I knew he could do it” when the 2023 Colorado Buffaloes were being touted as having one of the worst rosters in the Power 5? Where the hell were you people then?
And let’s get to these sports writers who are now dropping article after article and speaking highly of Colorado and Sanders on their Podcasts. Where were you when the sh** was hitting the fan? Oh, but you’re here now so that’s what matters, right? Better late than never?
Scrolling down my Facebook timeline I see people who I didn’t even know could spell CFB saying they are now Colorado fans. I can understand the excitement that win brought but these were the same people dragging Sanders through the mud for leaving an HBCU to “chase the money” as they called it.
Maybe he did. But whatever reasons he did it for, he showed everyone that he’s the real deal and so are his players. But these bandwagon fans need to go somewhere. The moment they lose a game or hit a rough patch, they will go back to cheering for Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, or whatever rock they crawled from under. This is how it goes.
Are You A Real Fan Of Colorado Buffaloes Football
Colorado is the hot ticket now, and they will be the most-watched team this season. But are they fans for real? How long can they stay on this course? I’ve been writing about the Colorado Buffaloes since he took the job. I said they would be the team to watch this season. I defended Prime and his decision to leave Jackson State (I’m an HBCU Alum).
Hell, I even spoke about the possible upset that would happen on Saturday. And I predicted more than just the TCU game. To go even further, I spoke about the talent of QB Shedeur Sanders and how he’s been putting up pro-like numbers and this was before the season even started. I was already there. I was already cheering. Might not been as loud as others but I could see what Prime was doing. He was setting the foundation.
But now, with these fake supporters, it’s taking some of the luster of what the Colorado Buffaloes accomplished. You weren’t there. And I can understand that just a tad. Some people have to see it up close for them to fully grasp what’s going on. That’s respectable. But please don’t act like you were there from the beginning. Don’t act like you weren’t just slaying this man for turning his back on the black community.
It’s ok to give Sanders and his team some props. But do it like you’re a fan of another team.. Hell, for some, this may have been their first teaser of a true CFB game. I know people I went to college with who never watched College Football (No, my college at the time didn’t have a team). They just read the headlines, saw that Colorado won and now they’re fans and excited for them. Where were you?
But knowing Deion, he forgives you. That’s the point of all of this. He turned Jackson State into a powerhouse. With one game, he turned a nation of haters into believers and a group of non-fans, into supporters.
You may not fully understand it now, but you can see the foundation of what I’ve been talking about all offseason. Welcome to the party.
