NFLWelcome to the second half of the fantasy football season! BSB class is a struggle this year, but we’re still in great shape to bring that trophy home. Week 8 was an excellent week for us. We are hoping BSB Week 9 will be the same. As always, we will review the transactions of BSB Week 8, and then move onto the BSB Week 9 transactions. Also, we will review and preview the Final Rosters. So, let’s get it!
Week 8 Review
The buy for last week was Jimmy Graham of the Packers. Indicative of my fantasy relationship with Graham, he only produced 5.00 points in Week 8. Still, I have faith that Graham will deliver down the line. The consensus is that his star will fall with the return Adams, but I disagree. I think Adams helps Graham in that it will open up the middle of the field more. Also, this will increase Graham’s red-zone targets, which is where Graham thrives.
The sell for last week was Nelson Agholor. As the late coach Dennis Green said, “They are who we thought they were!” Except BSB is not letting Nelson off the hook. Agholor managed only 5.40 points last week. Yes, Buffalo is a tough customer, but I don’t see him getting much better. Of course, any player can go off any given Sunday, but let someone else take that risk. We’re here to win, and Agholor will not get you there.
Finally, the bench of Week 8 was Teddy Bridgewater. As expected, Drew Brees returned to the starting lineup. As good as Bridgewater was for the Saints this season, he is still not Brees. Again, I think he remains a bench for leagues that allow keepers. With Taysom Hill at their disposal, I think the Saints will do the right thing and let Teddy play somewhere else. He deserves that, and I think the Saints will give him that.
Buy – Chris Conley, Jacksonville Jaguars
In BSB Week 9, we’re getting to the point of slim pickings. The playoffs are not as far away as one would think. So, we have to dig deep. The BSB Week 9 of Chris Conley personifies that. No, he has not been stellar, but he does have some favorable matchups coming up. More importantly, he is available. Conley is available in 76% of fantasy football leagues (per Yahoo Fantasy).
Furthermore, Yahoo Fantasy states that the Texans give up the most points to wide receivers. Specifically to receivers, the Texans have allowed 324.20 points in eight weeks. That winds up being an average of 40.53 per week. Conley should have a good week in Week 9. I would even say he’s worth a start, but it will be situational after this week.
Sell – Chase Edmonds, Arizona Cardinals
It seems we’re always the agents of bad news. In BSB Week 9, we have to do so again. In Week 8, Edmonds left the game early with a hamstring injury. Usually, Edmonds would be a bench in those circumstances. In weeks 5-7, Chase scored 17.60, 14.70, and 35.00, respectively. However, Kliff Kingsbury lists Edmonds as doubtful. Also, Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reports that Edmonds will miss a few weeks.
To complicate matters more, the Cardinals traded for Kenyan Drake of the Dolphins in a deadline deal. When Chase does return, it will be a crowded backfield. Assuming health, Johnson, Edmonds, and Drake will be competing for real estate. Of course, David Johnson is alpha in that scenario, but Drake has the talent to beat out Edmonds. It’s best to cut your losses now.
Bench – Mitch Trubisky, Chicago Bears
In BSB Week 9, the bench is clear. While the Bears may be hitching their wagon to Trubisky, you should not. Even when healthy, Mitch has been more miss than hit this season. Trubisky has two games of over 15 points, which is Week 3 (18.44) and Week 7 (20.04). In the other weeks (not counting the weeks he didn’t play), Mitch scored a total of 17.94 points (5.98 points per game).
The only reason Trubisky is not a sell is that you still need bye week coverage. When the bye weeks are complete, you can cut him loose. For many, Trubisky is who they thought he was. I thought he would be better, but he is not. I think at this point, Mitch is a bust. It’s sad to see that talent go to waste, but it is what it is.
Final Rosters Review and Preview
Both rosters found the win column in Week 8. Roster 1A had its best week in a while. It beat projections by four points for a total of 170.92. Drew Brees returned to the starting lineup with 23.92 points. All but three offensive players beat projections. Edelman and Smith-Schuster also went over 20 points with 27.50 and 22.30 points, respectively. So far, this is the first week this roster is projected to lose, but projections are not everything. That roster is below:
Roster 1B also had its best week in a long time. Mike Evans led the way with another 40-point performance (42.80). It was his second 40-point performance of the season. Also, Brady filled in admirably for Mahomes (as expected), Jordan Howard had a stellar week with 18.10 points. For now, Brady gets the start, but that is likely to change by Sunday. Mahomes is listed as doubtful right now, but many expect him to play. Projected for the win with 101.71 points, that roster is below:
Good luck this week! With the playoffs drawing closer, the focus will shift to that. Rosters, at this point, will not change much. So, the format will change starting next week. Be on the lookout for that! See you next week.
