The WNBA is getting ready to host their annual All-Star Weekend from Thursday, July 23rd until Saturday, July 25th, where it will end with the All-Star Game. This year, it will be hosted in Chicago, and all the excitement is surrounding the event. The All-Star Game is where the best of the best get to compete against one another. WNBA GOATs, Theresa Weatherspoon and Cynthia Cooper, were general managers for the two respective teams, drafting their roster based on the players who were selected to participate in the game.
Two players from the New York Liberty, Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones, were selected to participate in the All-Star game. Both players are not new to this, with Stewart earning her third nomination and Jones receiving her sixth.
Both players are more than deserving of this high honor.
Stewart Continues to Stun
Breanna Stewart is a seasoned WNBA veteran at this point, with the 2026 season marking her tenth in the league. This is now her eighth time being nominated to a WNBA All-Star Team, which is a strong indicator that Stewart is doing something right.
Stewart is adding to her already long list of accolades. She is a 2016-All Rookie, 2016 Rookie of the Year, two-time MVP, two-time CC MVP, the 2022 Scoring Champion, a seven-time All-WNBA team, a seventh-time All-Defensive Team, a two-time Finals MVP, and last but certainly not least, a three-time WNBA Champion.
There is no denying that Stewart is one of the greatest WNBA players of all time. She continues to prove that with her performance on the court, and she continues to get rewarded for it.
Stewart has remained humble despite all her achievements. She isn’t letting this crowning moment get to her head. Stewart is going to go into this game just like she does any other with the Liberty, ready to win for her team.
Jones Excels on the Court
Just like Stewart, Jonquel Jones is in her tenth WNBA season and has a list of accolades following her career. She is the 2019 block champion, the 2021 MVP, a 2023 CC MVP, four-times all-defensive team, a 2024 Finals MVP, and a 2024 WNBA Champion.
Jones has been the Liberty’s “big” for four seasons now. She has held a prime role in developing the team, alongside Stewart, as two of the more seasoned players on the team. Jones has been a strong contender and team player, and now, for the sixth time in her ten seasons, she receives the honor of being named to the All-Star team to show just how strong her skills are.
Jones and Stewart Going Head-to-Head
Stewart was named to Team Coop while Jones was named to Team Spoon for the All-Star Game. Although these two Liberty teammates will be going head-to-head, there is sure to be nothing but love for one another once the two are off the court. It is just exciting to see these two players compete with the best of the best in the WNBA.
The All-Star Game will commence on Saturday, July 25th in Chicago. WNBA fans will not want to miss this game, as it is sure to be incredible with all the stars competing.
