After 6 grueling months of pre-season, regular season, and postseason football, a champion was crowned. Super Bowl LX saw a champion being crowned by either the Seattle Seahawks or the New England Patriots. The game itself started out as a defensive battle through the first 3 quarters, with no touchdowns. Then we saw 4 touchdowns, two by each team in the 4th quarter. In the end, the Seattle Seahawks, with 3 turnovers by defense, beat the New England Patriots 29-13. And, these were the biggest moments of Super Bowl LX.
1st Half Biggest Moments:
The Seahawks started the game with the ball and kicked a field goal from 33 yards by Jason Myers. Then, both teams went five consecutive drives that ended with punts before the next score in the game. Seattle then, in the 2nd quarter, with another opportunity for a touchdown, settled for a 39-yard Jason Myers field goal. And, before halftime, Jason Myers settled for 3th field goal made from 41 yards out. The opportunity for Seattle to put the game away early was making Seattle frustrated.
The Patriots were struggling to make plays on offense, but the defense was keeping them in the game. New England’s offensive line allowed Drake Maye to get sacked 3 times in the 1st half. Cornerback Christian Gonzalez was the star for the Patriots in the first half. As he prevented, the Seahawks’ offense from making big-time plays in the 1st half to keep it close. In the 1st half, the Patriots only mustered 51 total yards on offense.
The 1st half was a battle for both defenses, as the Seahawks and the Patriots didn’t score a touchdown. And, both teams knew in the 2nd half that turnovers were going to be a key.
2nd Half Biggest Moments:
The Patriots got the ball to start the 2nd half, and struggled with a 3-and-out. Then Seattle had to settle for another Jason Myers field goal from 41 yards deep inside New England territory. Both teams then traded three-and-outs on their next 2 possessions. Then, late in the 3rd quarter, the 1st turnover of Super Bowl LX happened by Seattle. When Derick Hall stripped-sacked Drake Maye and recovered by Byron Murphy.
The stripped-sack led to the 1st touchdown of Super Bowl LX by Seattle on their next drive. When Sam Darnold connected with AJ Barner for a 16-yard touchdown pass with made it 19-0. Then, the Patriots on their next drive answered with a touchdown of their own. With 35 yard touchdown pass from Drake Maye to Mack Hollins, which made it 19-7. Seattle, after a three-and-out, made a huge turnover by intercepting a Drake Maye pass by Julian Love.
Then, Jason Myers added a 26-yard field goal to set a Super Bowl record 5th field goal of the game. On the next drive, the Seattle defense put the game out of reach with a pick-six by Uchenna Nwosu. While the Patriots were able to get one more touchdown on a Drake Maye pass to Rhamondre Stevenson. In the end, the Seattle Seahawks celebrated their 2nd Lombardi trophy by a score of 29-13 over the Patriots. Kenneth Walker III was named Super Bowl MVP, becoming the 1st running back since Seattle’s Davis to be the MVP.
Overall Thoughts:
The Seattle defense forced 3 New England turnovers, with all three of them in the 2nd half. And, the Seattle pass rush was able to sack Drake Maye 6 times on the night. The Seahawks were able to make great adjustments in the 2nd half by creating those turnovers. Head Coach Mike Macdonald becomes the 3rd youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl. And, the Seahawks will now head to the offseason and look to add more to their talented roster.
