On August 28, the Golden State Valkyries will make their fashion debut at the Valkyries Fashion Show, presented by Sephora, at Chase Center’s Above the Rim venue, which has an incredible view of downtown San Francisco. With 15 carefully chosen looks from up-and-coming and well-known designers, the event will showcase the relationship between basketball, fashion, and beauty.
Tiffany Hayes, the Valkyries guard, will be the star of the show and present original designs from her expanding clothing line. Off the court, Hayes is well-known for her creativity. She has been showcasing new aspects of her identity and sharing her story through fashion. “It’s how I tell my story and shape my narrative without saying a word. As a professional athlete, people often see me in uniform, but style allows me to step outside of that and show different layers of who I am. It gives me confidence, it grounds me, and it reminds me that my identity is bigger than how I perform when I’m on the court,” Hayes said. She is going to display two unique runway designs that she created. These pieces will highlight her bold and expressive aesthetic.
Brittany Hampton, a member of the Valkyries Collective and a prominent figure in the fashion industry, will also serve as the event’s creative director. After winning the House of DVF competition, Hampton became well-known for her ability to style high-profile celebrities. Her styling sparks exciting discussions regarding fashion and culture. Her leadership ensures the show will be a memorable celebration of player individuality.
The Valkyries Shop will start selling pieces from designers such as Retired from Society, AuthMade, Dead Dirt, Ru by Rupal, and Kids of Immigrants in October.
After the show, the Valkyries take the court again to play the Minnesota Lynx on Saturday, August 30. Golden State is still competing for a postseason spot in its first season, and Hayes’ self-assurance from the fashion spotlight may translate to her performance on the court. With Hampton shaping the team’s cultural identity and the roster determined to make a statement, the Valkyries aim to turn both fashion week and their next game into defining moments.
