The Buffalo Bills have let the rest of the AFC catch up and pass them at the same time. 3 years ago, this was their Conference. While the Kansas City Chiefs were winning, the Bills were supposed to be next in line.
However, they now find themselves asking if their head coach is the right guy or not. There are rumors that Stefon Diggs is not happy either. And then you have Josh Allen. While still viewed as an elite QB, Allen is struggling to lead his team to the same places Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes have been. The Bills are treading water in the shallow end while running from the sharks.
The window is closing. Hell, let’s be honest here. The window is closed and it may be shut for good with this group. Allen is still young enough to lead another charge but can the Bills provide him with the talent to reach that level? If Diggs leaves, then what? If McDermott leaves, then what?
While the Buffalo Bills have faltered when it matters most, teams such as the Jacksonville Jaguars, Baltimore Ravens, and Miami Dolphins, and if they keep playing top-level football, the Houston Texans will push them further down the totem pole.
Hell, the Bills are no longer the top dawg in their own division. The title now goes to the Dolphins. If Aaron Rodgers were healthy, the Bills would fall behind the New York Jets as well. Yes, they’re that forgettable at the moment.
Will The Buffalo Bills Make The Playoffs
This offseason and during the trade deadline, the last two seasons should have been enough to paint the picture of how and why they have fallen so fast. The Bills have been in search of a true No. 1 RB for the last 3 years and have walked away with nothing. They’ve also been in the market for a No. 2 receiver and still continue to have faith in Gabe Davis.
Through the draft or free agency, the Buffalo Bills have placed all their cards on the table with the faces of Allen and Diggs and figured they could just plug and play and walk away with wins. But in that time, they have watched the Chiefs win 2 Super Bowls, the Jaguars make the AFC Championship Game, and the Cincinnati Bengals make a trip to the Super Bowl coupled with the ascension of the Dolphins.
This group was to be the one to make fans forget the 4 straight Super Bowl losses by the Jim Kelly-led Buffalo Bills. They were the ones who were being groomed to stop the Mahomes/Kelce/Reid dynasty from happening. But all they have done is stop themselves.
Their last game against the Philadelphia Eagles was their moment to prove that still have some thread left in their tires. They stood tall but in the end, the Bills learned that the Eagles are not the Jets.
Now what happens? Sitting at 6-6 with games against the Dolphins, Chiefs, Chargers, and Dallas Cowboys, the Buffalo Bills can’t afford another letdown. While winning a title is still the goal, they’re struggling just to put their name in the playoff picture. If they fail to make it, we should hear the banging of a hammer hitting a nail, and closing that window for good.
