By: Bill Carroll
Nuts&Bolts’ New College Football Nutties For Week 11 are filled with players who stepped up to make game-changing plays. There were some record-tying and/or record-setting performances as well. With no further delay here are Nuts&Bolts’ New College Football Nutties For Week 11.
FBS Defense
LSU, Linebacker, Harold Perkins was the best player in the game. He may have been the best player in any game this week. He tallied eight total tackles, with four sacks and two forced fumbles . Perkins became ill prior to the game, after getting the flu, Kelly revealed during the post-game press conference. Already it’s being called Perkins’ ‘Flu Game.’ Bruce Feldman said, “He’s like the Micah Parsons of the SEC.” Perkins is just the fourth FBS player ever to have that stat line and the first to do it at the Power 5 level since Chase Young was an Ohio State Buckeye in 2019.
Miami, Safety, Kameron Kinchens tied the single-game Miami football record with three interceptions, including a 99-yard pick-six. Not since Kenny Phillips has a Hurricane matched that haul. He also had four solo stops, four assists, half of a TFL, and a pass defended.
Honorable Mention
Iowa, DE, Deontae Craig had a solo tackle, four assists, with a sack and a half, for Iowa’s Hawkeyes, to go along with a blocked punt. As Iowa throttled the Badgers to retain the Heartland Trophy.
FBS Offense
Washington, QB, Michael Penix Jr. has been so tantalizingly close to securing one, of Nuts&Bolts’ New College Football Nutties, in weeks past. But this week he wins college football’s most coveted new honor, a Nuts&Bolts’ New College Football Nutties For Week 11, is finally his.
After gaining an honorable mention versus Arizona, a game featuring a 500-plus yard passing performance, 13 yards rushing and five total touchdowns, he breaks through now. Despite the fact that his 408 yards passing on 26 of 35 attempts, with two scores and an interception, with 20 yards rushing on a pair of rushes, was less statistically impressive, he actually played better a overall game, against a far more talented Oregon defense. He may be the most improved QB in the FBS.
Honorable Mention
Temple, QB, Elijah “E.J” Warner was previously known as the son Brenda and Kurt Warner, but now he is a winner of an honorable mention for the coveted Nuts&Bolts’ New College Football Nutties For Week 11. He was able to place 42 of his 59 passes in the hands of his targets, for 486 yards and 3 TDs.
Special Teams
Western Kentucky, RS/WR Jaylen Hall, a Western Michigan University graduate transfer, had a day for the ages, in aiding Western Kentucky in its efforts. Hall returned a punt 46 yards for a touchdown helping the Hilltoppers in putting the game away. In addition, he snagged seven passes for 102 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the 45-10 victory over Rice.
FCS Defense
Marlem Louis, DE, Richmond was the star of the game on defense, he made many pivotal plays to include, five solo tackles, an assist, three total TFLs, among them two sacks, he also contributed two QB hurries.
Honorable Mentions
Weber State, LB, Winston Reid, Had a day in which he enforced his will on his opponents, he also forced three fumbles, with his two strip sacks, four solo tackles, and three assists.
Sacramento State, LB, Armon Bailey has been close before, he was a Nutties nominee for the week of October third. He was again a very strong candidate after compiling seven tackles. six of which were unassisted, an assist, three total TFLs, two of which were sacks.
FCS Offense
Gardner-Webb QB, Bailey Fisher completed 30-of-38 passes for 366 yards and 3 TDs, and rushed for 48 yards and a score as he helped lead the Runnin’ Bulldogs to a 42-35 victory over Campbell in the East/West BBQ Bowl.
Honorable Mention
Mercer, RS/WR, Devron Harper, is a Gardner-Webb transfer and I can only imagine if the Runnin’ Bulldogs still had him, as they ready themselves for the Big South Championship Game. He showed exactly who and what he is as he took over the game, versus the Paladins of Furman, with 192 yards receiving on 14 catches, had two kick returns for 48 yards, and three carries for 24 yards, if you’re scoring at home that’s 254 total yards.
Special Teams
Morgan State, WR/KR, Keith Jenkins, Jr., is one of the best kick returners in FCS, which he showcased with a thrilling return of 90 yards for a TD on the opening kickoff of the 2nd half. On the day he had a pair of returns for 97 yards and the aforementioned TD. He is not only a winner of the Nuts&Bolts’ New College Football Nutties For Week 11. He is twice a champion as he also won in week 7.
Division II Defense
Wayne State, LB, Matt Buschman, an E. Michigan University graduate-transfer, was a pestilence to Ferris State, with 13 tackles (10 solo, 3 assisted) along with a tackle for loss, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, a quarterback hurry and an interception.

Northwest Missouri State University, DE, Elijah Green posted six tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and a quarterback sack in Northwest’s 27-21 win at Emporia State.
Division II Offense
Concord, QB, Jack Mangel was the difference as Concord outlasted UNC Pembroke, in five overtimes six touchdowns as Mangel passed for four touchdowns, one interception, while completing 22-of-35 for 371 yards. He also toted the ball four times for 18 yards and two more scores.
Missouri Western, RB, Titus McCoy, Indiana State, was on a rampage when he faced Lincoln. He tallied 289 yards on 35 rushes. He was as able to set and tie a pair of program rushing records. His yardage broke Tony Williams’s 26-year-old record of 283 rushing yards. If that wasn’t enough, McCoy rushed for five touchdowns, tying another team record.
Honorable Mentions
Simon Fraser, QB, Justin Seiber is not the first Canadian to receive a “Nutties” nomination, we have even had Canadian-born “Nutties” winners, however, the SFU Red Leafs’ signal-caller is the first nominee from a Canadian school. He completed 24 of 34 pass attempts for 293 yards with no interceptions. The five touchdown passes in a game is the most in the LSC this season and ties Seiber for second all-time amongst SFU quarterbacks.
W. Florida, QB, Peewee Jarrett is physically impressive and may have a chance to play after college. He showed off his live arm, needing only 11 passes, to connect nine times for 246 yards and four scores with a pair of rushing TDs and 26 yards on five carries.
Ferris State, QB, Carson Gulker displayed impressive versatility when he produced nearly 400 yards of total offense and four touchdowns. His day included: 189 yards rushing on 26 carries, an average of 7.3 yards per rush, while totaling three scores on the ground. He also completed nine-of-17 throws for 197 yards and a score.
Special Teams

That’s Nuts&Bolts’ New College Football Nutties For Week 11, I gave a little extra love to Division II since, for most, the season is over. Congratulations to all who qualified for the Division II playoffs. Perhaps we’ll have a Division II playoffs edition of the Nutties?
