So with that in mind, try to figure out to which category this College Football Top 25 belongs.
5. Oklahoma: I think the injection of Brent Venables into this program with have a similar effect as a espresso enema. Everything with be moving faster and it will feel like caffeine is permeating everything. On the Latitude 36® Bermudagrass at Norman, OK the Sooners will feature: Theo Wease, a four or five-star recruit and an Under Armour All-American who when he was last healthy 530 receiving yards (averaged 14.3 yards per catch) with four touchdown receptions; he’s poised to emerge. His partner is former FWAA Freshman All-America and All-Big 12 honorable mention WR Marvin Mims. Other standouts include: OT Anton Harrison, RB Eric Gray under the direction of offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, from Ole Miss; on defense: junior defensive lineman Jalen Redmond is an early top 100 NFL prospect, S Key Lawrence, CB Woodi Washington, and LB DaShaun White are names to remember.
4. Michigan: Coach Harbaugh is one of college football’s most conspicuous personalities, for a variety of reasons. This could be a season in which they repeat as College Football playoff participants. For the Maize and Blue to stay in contention they will need growth from either dull but dependable Cade McNamara or maturation from talented but erratic JJ McCarthy, as well as the talented WR Ronnie Bell to simply remain healthy. Both lines are strong with OT Ryan Hayes and C Olusegun Oluwatimi as possible top 50 NFL prospects and G Zak Zinter as a possible top 100. They will open holes for Blake Corum who’s back after rushing for 952 yards and 11 TDs. The defense boasts “Feldman Freak List” member DT Mazi Smith, the top returning sacker, and their best-returning DB, corner DJ Turner.
3. Georgia: Former message board whipping boy, Stetson Bennett, gets the last laugh as five-star QB, JT Daniels transfer to Morgantown, WV, Bennett will have access to three pro prospects at just tight end! All-American Brock Bowers, Arik Gilbert, and the super-sized Darnell Washington are all talented. At receiver Ladd McConkey and Adonai Mitchell should emerge and Broderick Jones and Sedrick Van Pran likely anchor a young offensive line. On defense they have All-American DT Jalen Carter, Christopher Smith has NFL starter potential at safety, and Tykee Smith is intriguing at the other safety spot.
2. Ohio State: I honestly toyed with them at the top spot, however, they have a few question marks that keep them nestled in the second spot. At QB and WR they have returning All-Americans CJ Stroud and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, respectively. Many see Stroud as a Heisman favorite and Smith-Njigbawith 105 catches, 1,655 yards (15.8 ypc), and 10 TD in two seasons, as the future The Biletnikoff Award winner. For good measure, TreVeyon Henderson was well over 1,000 yards rushing and maybe a top-five RB. On defense end Zach Harrison seems primed for a big year, CB Denzel Burke could be the next star DB, and former Sun Devils’ running back Chip Trayanum, has a chance to be an impact transfer at LB. Veteran Taron Vincent at tackle should be a steadying influence.
1. Alabama: When a team returns a Heisman winner at quarterback and the consensus #1 overall NFL Draft prospect, Will Anderson Jr. at outside linebacker, that team looks like a tempting option at the top-ranked team in the nation. But as late-night commercials often say, “don’t answer yet, just look what else you get!” WR Jermaine Burton, formerly of the National Champion Georgia Bulldogs is an impact transfer on offense, as is Tyler Harrell from Louisville who joins talented tight end Cameron Latu. But the most anticipated transfer on offense is the explosive Jahmyr Gibbs, formerly of Georgia Tech. On defense, other than Anderson, NFL scouts are in a state of salivation over linebacker Henry To’oto’o, safety Jordan Battle, another big-name transfer is CB Eli Ricks via LSU, and Brian Branch who plays the hybrid “Star” position is poised to make big plays at all three levels of the defense.
