Since the NBA season officially ended, all the talk has been about the Brooklyn Nets and Kyrie Irving’s status on opting back with the Nets for another year or opting out and becoming an unrestricted free agent. But, what should KD do?
Since Kyrie’s arrival in Brooklyn in 2019. It has been a circus going on in Irving for 3 years now and it’s come to a point that the Nets organization has had enough.
Irving has missed 123 games in 3 years for all kinds 0f reasons.
Most athletes miss games because of injury or things that are legit excuses for missing games. However, that’s not the case for Mr. Kyrie Irving.
Irving has gotten to a point where he just misses games because he chooses to. The Brooklyn Nets started the season without Irving because he refused to get the vaccine.
As active players living in the New York area athletes had to get the vaccine if they wanted to play in their home arenas throughout the season.
The vaccine was to protect the athletes for their safety throughout the season. However, that wasn’t the case for Irving he chose not to get the vaccine because he felt like the vaccine was unsafe to take.
Kyrie Irving has the right to stand on his beliefs. However, when you play a team sport where everything you do in a team sport should put the team in the best situation possible.
Sometimes in life, you have to put your personal beliefs aside and do what’s best for the others around you. Irving has always been about what’s in his best interest and not for the others around him.
The reason why Kevin Durant and James Harden forced their way to Brooklyn was the chance to play with Kyrie Irving.
Irving’s immaturity and his selfishness were one of the reasons why James Harden forced his way out of Brooklyn.
Another big reason was the fact that Irving was a part-time player where he could only play rode games rather than being a full player and not being a distraction to his teammates and the Nets front office.
The Nets didn’t have much time to develop enough chemistry throughout the season because of Irving’s absence most of the season. Which lead to the Brooklyn getting swept in the first round by the Celtics.
With all the distractions Irving has caused this season with Brooklyn. He wants a long-term contract from the Nets despite his inability to show the franchise that he’s fully committed to basketball.
Irving said that basketball was not his main priority so why would the Nets commit to someone long-term if because is not his main priority.
With leads back to Kevin Durant who is the face of the Nets franchise. Durant will be 34 years old in September and he has about 3-4 more years in his prime do Durant needs a team that can contend for championships right now.
Having someone like Kyrie that has a resume of not being trusted.
Durant needs to think about his future in Brooklyn and put himself in the best winning situation if Kyrie chooses to be an unrestricted free agent or even leave Brooklyn.
Durant has been a true professional throughout his career in every location he’s played at.
Durant is one of the greatest players to ever step foot on a basketball court. That’s why I would consider leaving because of the uncertainty of Irving’s status.
Durant needs culture and Brooklyn lacks culture. It’s time for Durant to take charge and call out Kyrie and hold him accountable. Durant is the Batman in this relationship.
